NRL to LIFT Salary Cap

It's good to see some small changes finally being made, but it's just a shame what has to happen for them to come about.

The NRL is purely a reactionary organisation, not a proactive one.

the first article means absolutely nothing to anyone other than the poor clubs.

the second article that foordy just posted is good - but 100k extra on the salary cap is ridiculous, not gonna help at all.
Well unless I've got this wrong isn't it 250k increase?
150k increase in marquee payments and 100k straight cap increase, I think that's how it works anyway.

Still 250k is not much but it's better than not increasing it at all.

the difference before with the marquee player payment you could only spend 50k of the 150k allowance on one player. now with the double in the allowance, you can potentially spend the full 300k allowance on 1 player. there are no restrictions on this allowance any more
Clubs can now guarantee third party payments.

I don't think clubs can ever guarantee something that is out of their hands. They can do their best.

I don't think third party arrangements should be included in the cap at all. In saying that, it should be between the manager and player only. Not the club.

If you're a good enough player that company A wants to contract you. Then go nuts, you've earned it.

thats how it is at the moment......

youre just not allowed to wear or mention your team.

Yeah, but don't the clubs currently organise them?

If they do, then the deal falls under the cap. For any 3rd party agreement to be outside the cap, it basically cannot be related to the club in any way...

By guarantee it means if the deal falls the club will pay the amount of the 3rd party contract.
