With the State competition kicking off this weekend and it featuring a lot of Broncos and Qld girls, I figured it's worth keeping track of, even if it's only for myself. It comes with some interesting changes following the post-lockdown Holcim Cup competition that got squeezed in before the NRLW season last year. With travel now allowed, the NQ Gold Stars and CQ Capras are able to compete again, Souths Logan have withdrawn this season following a large player exodus, notably to the Valleys Diehards, who are taking the place of Ipswich Brothers. Replacing the Magpies is a Barbarian-style week-by-week team in the Queensland Valkyries. This team will be made up of some permanent players, tryout development players, and surplus players from other teams that will get released each week by coaches. Squads NRLW/SOO/Notable players in bold [HEADING=2]Brisbane Tigers[/HEADING] Angelena Watego, Chanae Dawson, Chanelle Kohika-Skipper*, Charlotte Booth, Danielle Hunter, Eloise Vunakece, Emily Robinson, Emily Veivers, Jayda Lofipo, Jessica Carey*, Jessikah Reeves, Jiana Fa'atau, Jodeci Nicholson, Kathrine Moore (c), Keisha-Leigh Coolwell, Kelsey Parkin, Kennedy Harrison-Vahua, Kimberley Dore, Lucy Cuppari, Lucy Botten, Moega Wright, Ruth Talatonu, Shae De La Cruz, Shanay Taylor, Sian Lavea, Sierra Maple, Tahlia Rolph, Tayla Eldridge (c), Tegan Spicer, Zhane Kameta *out for season, both original co-captains Coach: Adrian Vowles [HEADING=2]Burleigh Bears[/HEADING] Amber Pilley, Belinda Clarke, Brittany Breayley, Chante Temara, Chelsea Lenarduzzi, Crystal Tamarua, Eseta Fangaloka, Jasmin Kemp (c), Karina Brown, Kelly Jury, Laken Paitai, Lauren Brown, Millie Boyle, Molly McGill, Shellie Long, Sophie Holyman, Tallisha Harden, Tamika Upton, Tarnisha Lyons, Tazmin Gray, Teaghan Hartigan, Tyler Birch, Zahara Temara, Kimiora Nati Coach: Tahnee Norris [HEADING=2]Central Queensland Capras[/HEADING] Abbey Templeman, Akayla McQuire, Annette Brander, Bronwyn Takaku, Chelsea Baker, Gemma Brennan, Keysha Baker, Reeghyn Beardmore, Rikarra Benjamin, Naomi Clayton, Kelli Dunlop, Vassa Hunter, Emmaley McMurdy, Meg Neven, Sophie O’Toole, Emmanita Paki, Jessica Powell, Mackenzie Reid, Mikayla Roe, Kailah Rogers, Bree Spreadborough, Mariah Storch, Krystal Sulter, Sharni Upton, Justine Willie, Jasmine Walters, Coach: Amanda Ohl [HEADING=2]North Queensland Gold Stars[/HEADING] Jordii Mahendrarajah, Emma Wood, Sarah Field, Mateeka Nielson, Riutoto Tehiko, Romy Teitzel (c), Shaniah Power, Tamika Bray, Katie Green, Imogen Healy, India MacPhee, Jasmine Peters, Kya Mooney, Lauren Moss, Layla Fauid, Pani Rupapere, Rangi-marie Edwards-Bruce, Emma Manzelmann, Kristine Vaalepu, Deborah Barchard, Tahlulah Tillett, Stephanie Mooka, Tahina Booth, Esha Nona, Priya Deshong, Kaiyla Ward, Rhiannon Revell-Blair Coach: Gavin Lloyd [HEADING=2]Tweed Seagulls[/HEADING] Tarryn Aiken, Olivia Attenborough-Doyle, Zara Canfield, Jaime Chapman, Jessika Elliston, Jada Ferguson, Olivia Fien, Leticia Haas-Quinlan, Georgia Hale, Kayla Harris, Serena Martin, Kaitlyn Phillips, Lailee Phillips, Grace Qaranivalu, Illarrah Roberts, Kirra Steadman, Alani Sullivan, Tawana Sullivan Togo, Jade Taylor, Brooke Saddler, Shaylee Bent, Emma Stockham, Georgia Simmonds, Abelee Stanley Coach: Chris O'Connell [HEADING=2]Valleys Diehards[/HEADING] Portia Bourke, Ali Brigginshaw (c), Destiny Brill, Patrice Chambers, Shenae Ciesiolka, Brianna Clark, Lavinia Gould, Grace Griffin, Kody House, Toni Hunt, Lauretta Leao-Seve, Jamie-Lee Lewis, Hayley Maddick, Taylor-Adeline Mapusua, Rosanna Mauga, Eileen Payne, Savannah Pratten, Kelsie Price, Natassja Purontakanen, Sarah Riordan, Emma Sykes, Caitlyn Taleni, Liahona Theodore, Rosemary Vaimili Toalepai, Meg Ward, Melanie West-Sooby Coach: Scott Prince [HEADING=2]West Brisbane Panthers[/HEADING] Shen’e Clemments, Dana Cruz, Lauren Dam, Justine Sou, Lilly Green, Gemma Schnaubelt, Julia Robinson (c), Acacia Wulf, Asipau Mafi, Isabella Coll, Kia Henry, Montanah Best, Takiyah Nagas, Taimane Levu, Paige Schouw, Hayley Riccardi, Lana Sheedy, Bridget Smith, Sally Tuiala, Jailyn To’o, Jessica Nugent, Stefanie Gallagher, Ariaana Randall, Makenzie Weale, Nakita Sao, Sera Koroi, Hannah Larsson, Fiona Jahnke, Caitlin Moran Coach: Craig Green [HEADING=2]Queensland Valkyries[/HEADING] As above, team will change week in, week out Coach: Wayne Treleaven To be honest, it was hard finding the accurate squads, as there was conflicting information from the squads listed on the QRL website to the Round 1 team lists to the individual clubs themselves as to who was playing this weekend but I suppose the nature of what is still essentially amateur sport is open to a lot random players appearing throughout the season. Covid restrictions may be playing their part there still too Overall, some big changes obviously with the new teams, and players like Warriors stalwart Georgia Hale (Sam Lisone is her partner, hence the gold coast move), Shaylee Bent (to keep an eye on David) and Jamie Chapman from the Dragons joining the competition. Burleigh is stacked again, even more so with Upton signing and Pilley having recovered from her ACL. Valleys look strong just off their initial recruitment. Tweed will be good with the NRLW imports and Tarryn Aiken going strength to strength. My girl Robbo captaining West Brisbane is awesome, hope she kills it. Hopefully Teitzel can have a true breakout season too after only playing 6 games last season
