With the State competition kicking off this weekend and it featuring a lot of Broncos and Qld girls, I figured it's worth keeping track of, even if it's only for myself. It comes with some interesting changes following the post-lockdown Holcim Cup competition that got squeezed in before the NRLW season last year.

With travel now allowed, the NQ Gold Stars and CQ Capras are able to compete again, Souths Logan have withdrawn this season following a large player exodus, notably to the Valleys Diehards, who are taking the place of Ipswich Brothers. Replacing the Magpies is a Barbarian-style week-by-week team in the Queensland Valkyries. This team will be made up of some permanent players, tryout development players, and surplus players from other teams that will get released each week by coaches.

To be honest, it was hard finding the accurate squads, as there was conflicting information from the squads listed on the QRL website to the Round 1 team lists to the individual clubs themselves as to who was playing this weekend but I suppose the nature of what is still essentially amateur sport is open to a lot random players appearing throughout the season. Covid restrictions may be playing their part there still too

Overall, some big changes obviously with the new teams, and players like Warriors stalwart Georgia Hale (Sam Lisone is her partner, hence the gold coast move), Shaylee Bent (to keep an eye on David) and Jamie Chapman from the Dragons joining the competition.

Burleigh is stacked again, even more so with Upton signing and Pilley having recovered from her ACL. Valleys look strong just off their initial recruitment. Tweed will be good with the NRLW imports and Tarryn Aiken going strength to strength. My girl Robbo captaining West Brisbane is awesome, hope she kills it. Hopefully Teitzel can have a true breakout season too after only playing 6 games last season

First round results:

Tweed (h) 42 def Valkyries 22
Capras (a) 32 def WB Panthers 16
Valleys (a) 18 def Gold Stars 14
Burleigh (a) 70 def Brisbane Tigers 0

Second round results

Burleigh (a) 34 def Tweed 10
Valleys (h) 20 def WB Panthers 4
Gold Stars (a) 36 def Capras 14
Tigers (a) 30 def Valkyries 6

Nice, didn't know this was a thing, but definitely want to see some of this. Damn Burleigh look stacked, but I don't like them, even though Upton is my fave player. Cool to see Wests Panthers in there. Do you know where we can watch?

A definite gap in quality as the first round showed flogging Easts 70-0 as they put 14 tries on them (Loz only kicked 50%). It's about a 65% NRLW/Origin side. And then Easts (no top grade players afaik) beat the Valkyries 30-6, so I could see Burleigh reaching triple figures when that game happens

They had a bit of a snafu being the on-demand game on the QRL site, as it starts at the 30min mark with Burleigh already 30 up and dead air for the last 2hours of the stream lol

But they have small highlights and everything here for some games: https://www.qrl.com.au/news/topic/bhp-premiership/

There's a combination of streaming through QRL, 9Now and I think club facebook pages, but I'm not sure what that schedule is atm, as that includes ISC, MM and Colts coverage too, but I think there's a minimum 1 if not 2 games a week streamed on QRL.com for BHP

Thanks mate. That's perfect.

House hard done by she’s been great for Valleys.

House hard done by she’s been great for Valleys.
Player of the match on the weekend too. She seems to have renewed her efforts with footy. Unfortunately her few appearances in Origin and NRLW in the past haven't been great. Hope she doesn't give up

Easts vs WB Panthers starting now. Robbo playing 6 for the Panthers

edit: Robbo gets player of the match. I love her, but no way she was the BoG. She wasn't bad though, just didn't do much and switched to fullback after halftime with Moran playing halves. Should've been the Panthers winger Lauren Dam imo

Third round results:

Valleys (h) 64 def Valkyries 6
Burleigh (h) 36 def Capras 16
Gold Stars (h) 26 def Tweed 4
WB Panthers (a) 20 def Tigers 14

Valleys, Burleigh and NQ look to be the leading teams, Tweed and Capras next, then Panthers and Tigers, then as expected Valkyries are a bit of cannon fodder. It's great for the players to get a run they otherwise wouldn't, but I don't know how beneficial it is to having an average of ~54pts so far put on you every week

Hale has been great for Tweed. Broncos should have a crack at her.

Might be worth a shout now that Ali will probably play halves again with McGregor out so we’ll need a lock (assuming she won’t be able to play)

Be a shame for the Warriors though to lose Hale

Burleigh playing Valkyries tonight at Pizzey.

The weather may save Valkyries from a record score ... maybe

Round four results:

Burleigh (h) 52 def Valkyries 4
Gold Stars (h) 30 def Tigers 4
WB Panthers (h) 26 def Tweed 6
Valleys (a) 22 def Capras 0

Heartbreaker for the Panthers losing to a final minute try to Burleigh, 18-14.

Lauren Dam with another double. I hope Brisbane are looking at her, with Amber Pilley taking a break from football, we may need some outside back depth
