Byrnes, Drew, Nikorima, Taylor, Berrell, Collins, Barr, Arrow, Fai all backing up from U/20s Origin. Will be interesting to see who makes it through.

Still waiting on the Bulldogs line-up. They're an odd side in the sense that they started off as total easy-beats but recruited a bunch of mid-season signings and have caused a few upsets in their time.

The young Broncos have overcome the loss of four Queensland under-20 players to beat the Bulldogs 26-14 in the National Youth Competition match in Sydney tonight. The Broncos went into the match with guns Jayden Nikorima, Jai Arrow, Jayden Berrell and Alex Barr all out injured after playing for the Maroons 20s on Wednesday night.
And despite going down 8-0 in the first half, the Broncos under-20s finished over the top of their opposition to record another great win.
With the match tight at 8-6 at halftime, the two teams again began their end-to-end play but it was the Broncos who nudged ahead first.
A Will Brimson grubber kick was cleaned up by Keegan Hipgrave to allow kicker Ashley Taylor to give Brisbane a 12-8 lead.
And they went back-to-back straight away, Paul Byrnes putting replacement back Logan Spaander into space to score and make it 18-8 in the blink of an eye.
Then it was Jarryd Dodd’s turn in the 63[SUP]rd[/SUP] minute, his try extending the Broncos’ lead to 22-8.
Prop Joe Ofahengaue sealed it with a try with four minutes left, Bulldog second rower Harry Pondekas’ try on full time coming much too late.
Earlier, the two teams were in a tackling mood, as it took 25 minutes for the first points to materialise.
A long ball out wide found Bulldogs’ winger Reimis Smith unmarked and the home side had a 4-0 lead.
The Bulldogs should have scored a few minutes later after making a long break downfield, but a try saver from Jordan Drew allowed the Broncos to hang on.
But the Bulldogs would not be denied soon after when this time left winger Marcelo Montoya scored out wide to put his side up 8-0 four minutes before halftime.
That left the Broncos just time enough to answer.
Back rower Hipgrave made a great play on the last to kick and regather after a Bulldogs’ touch for a new set of six.
The Broncos then received a penalty, and from the tap replacement Michael Molo steamrolled over 30 second before the hooter.
Taylor knocked over the conversion and the Broncos were in striking distance at 8-6 down at halftime.

From the Broncos site.

Great effort from our young guys. I was wondering how they would handle having to back up from Wednesday after contributing so many players to the maroons.

I thought they would struggle Foordy.

It's always tough to win on the road, especially in tough conditions but to do so after backing up from Origin is unreal.

It wasn't like they did it easy either. They were clearly feeling the effects early and it appeared a boil-over was on the cards until Molo scored that determined try on the shadow of half-time. Such a huge play and to think he's a fringe NYC player. Just goes to show how good the depth is at the club.

From the sounds of it, young Hipgrave had a big game as well. I thought he was a bit unlucky to get overlooked for the Origin side. He's still a bit raw even at this age, but the way he just throws himself into his work is what I'd want out of an Origin player. From the sounds of it, what was the Maroons loss was the Broncos gain and he may have played his best game of the season.

Good stuff.

I'm going to the Tigers game next week so I'll be able to write up a proper report. If the Tigers name their best side, it could make for a good game.

Trying to figure out the 17 for the game, if @1910 could help, that would be appreciated
