Sure, I can certainly see what you mean, he has been club player of the year multiple years running....But winning Premierships changes things. It changes priorities, and for a bloke that has a lot of bullshit going on in his private life, if I had the chance to be paid good money to at least be able to take it easier at work, I would take it too.
 
Payne the footballer is motivated by on field succes - now that he's got his premiership, he's achieved every accolade in the game bar the Dally M medal.

But Payne the business man is motivated by money which is understand given that circumstances in which he comes from. He shoulders the responsibility of raising his younger siblings and I'm going to assume that he finances his parents legal fees as well. He's accurately aware that he needs to earn as much money as he can whilst his body will allow it.

Because despite his on field efforts, he isn't overly marketabe off it. The stigma of his parents, his run ins with police, association with bikies and his quiet demeanour all work against him. Whereas Reece and Patty are the golden boys and faces of the franchise - he isn't changing that regardless of how many Paul Morgan medals he wins. A company offered Reece $75k to make plumbing related merchandise following the incident last year such is his appeal - Payne doesn't have that kind of reach.

And if R360 ever legitimately gets off the ground, he is gone regardless. No NRL club will be able to compete with what they're offering - fewer games, more money, and you get to live where you like for taxation purposes. Any current contract he signs is sure to have a get out clause that says he can go to rugby.

Joel and Fletch on the run home speculated that it could be something around the $1.8 million a year mark.

Both those blokes hate the Broncos and you can hear it in how our premiership was lucky and we didn't even have a chance this year. These clowns will spin until the cows come home that this means the club is falling apart. The same blokes were calling us pussies last year for not being up to Madge's expectations. It's Bs really and the convenient thing they leave out is Hass has always indicated he wants to leave. He has said on multiple occasions he wanted a premiership at the club and anyone paying attention would have known as soon as we did he was gone. It make's sense that his contracts here have been short and difficult to get over the line, not one apart from the one which he implied he was ripped off by Bennett was easy and we payed the price for signing him on that 5 year deal for peanuts and a chicken sandwich.

The other thing they quickly moved on from was when the other bloke mentioned R360. They all acted surprised "Oh that's right he was going there". He still is and they know that he has to have locked in a deal that A: allows him to exit if R360 gets running or B: pays him more after 27 then the Broncos can offer. Because these ****wits gave it away, the sticking point was 28. Kent said it , 28 was what allowed them to do it because they had three blokes signed. So the money has to be substantial for 28, 29.

So which is it? Did Bennett get him there or did Haas call them? This is so ****ed.
 
If you want to rest on your laurels and be a lazy fat **** then souths is your club, probably why Latrell recommended them.

Honestly, we all saw the attitude issues seep in under Bennett on his return here as he tried to recapture his youth & be one of the boys after his mid life crisis, and souths incapsulate that attitude wholly. They’ll be close enough, but never good enough, just as we were.
 
Souths let KK go a month ago. They also let go Havili & Moale. They have not yet re-signed Keppie or Walker.

This has been in the works for more than a weekend. Payne and his manager have been talking to Souths since at least the start of Jan when KK confirmed he was signed by Dragons.

KK was reportedly on 700, so they've got at least 500 to make up, probably more.
 
I wonder/hope of the move to Souths will be similar to Latrells. Won two premierships with the Roosters and was looking like the next Inglis, but then moved to Souths and has gone downhill since.

Thinking the same thing will happen here I.e. win back-to-back with us and then it all goes downhill.

He is going for more money (in TPAs) and to play less. Finish the year in August is a pretty sweet gig.
