OFFICIAL Payne Haas to depart Broncos at the end of 2026

Apparently Haas also a Bennett get-out clause.

If Bennett is no longer at the club Haas becomes a free agent.

Bennett's current contract ends end of 202

It's the Wayne Bennett success now trapezoid cap scheme.
lol. Yep.. Wayne should have been moved into a more of a cultural role long ago, rather than anything roster management related.

Have we ever seen a coach win the comp and then less than 6 months later the whole media is united in certainty that he has lost the dressing room and his methods don't work? He just won the ****ing comp!

I would love to know what Madge has done to all the journos, this is ****ing crazy.

Unfortunately we need to face reality. We are looking at Souths now becoming virtually unbeatable. With a core of Haas, Walker, Fifita and Mitchell, there is a very stable core that owns the league for the next 5 years. The only potential threat to it is R360. Post World Cup they likely come hard at Haas. The opportunity to play alongside Cleary and Katoa will be tempting for him. He may even choose to reunite with Carrigan and play for the Wallabies.

I disagree, he hasn't always prioritised money, he signed that six-year contract in 2018 and his value was a lot more during those six years.

Really a six-year contract for him was bad business. It's great money considering he'd only played three games, but he pretty soon went past that value, and it became in the Broncos favour.

That was 3 million over those six years, that's great value from the Broncos.

Then he upgraded in 2024 until this deal ends in November. He's signed two deals at the Broncos in his career.

The part that fits his MO is changing, he's been at the Warriors, Titans, going to sign with Souths, going to sign with Storm, played for the Broncos and now signed with Souths.

The only thing he is missing is the might change to boxing thing.

The money at Souths will be comparable to Brisbane, that's the RL ceiling at the moment- 1.1-1.2. No one is giving more than that.
Didn't he get upped throughout that deal because it looked unfair?

Ah, I'd take him back if he wanted. He might be prone to this stuff given the release and the crushing boos at the next game - walked it back pretty quick.

Maybe he just does shit on the spur of the moment and it takes a while for the reality to sink in. Impulsive.

We're a better team with him than without him. As long as it's not stupid money.

Oh god Cheese, I forgot he was there now. I know he was injured, but he's definitely suffered from the storm curse ever since leaving. Didn't seem all that damaging playing for the rorters.
Also if part of the reasoning with Souths on the same

Walker is likely retiring or 37+.. Trell and Fifita are sure to generate some higlights but not clear how much more. Haas will be racking up the stats if that floats your boat but he has also claimed a spoon along with his premiership ring.

In the end... he's just a prop!

Sounds like this was Payne’s plan all along
Master planning in action everywhere by all accounts. Wayne was planning since he was asked to bring Haas to the club over a year ago, player managers are definitely on the ball and pro-actively managing the best longer term interests of their clients and planning all the time, Payne was planning from breakfast till he made the decision before heading to the airport. Great when a plan comes together!

His agent is doing the rounds suggesting that the Broncos 'low balled' him.
This is what shits me, like if you are going to lie I get it the media does it all the time because they run unchecked, at this point you are probably an idiot if you don't make shit up, but at least make it believable. Say they refused to increase his current salary and the Rabbits were prepared to go higher. There is no universe in which a club comes to the best player in their position that has just won a premiership and offered to decrease his current salary. Don't insult our intelligence.

The amount of shit journalists are throwing out there after being late to the story is insane.

- Influenced by Fifita and Latrell
- R360 get out clause
- Bennett retirement clause
- Falling out with Madge
- Souths paying the same as Broncos
- Broncos lowballing / Souths offering more
- Broncos 5 year contract in response
