Perth Bears

I think the concession just highlights the lack of available talent across the competition IMO, its a pretty major red flag that the competition is not really in a position to support new team(s) at the top level.
The NRL has NEVER expanded, they've simply spread talent between more teams. It's still a East Coast sport through and through. Before Perth come in, they should have been in South Africa for a decade working with talent. There's talk of a 2nd NZ team, meanwhile the first team has had no success whatsoever (Fairytale in 2026/27 incoming). There needs to be actual benefits for teams developing players, instead of developing them for the Roosters and Storm to chew up and spit out.

He's as good as a gone.

He hasn't been that good this year but I'll always have an appreciation for him and his contribution to our 2025 success.

I think he can get back to that form. Everyone has been shit this year and a level below what they were last year. It hasn't helped him that Ezra hasn't been in form either.

Jamie Humphreys’ management informed the Bears this week he won’t be signing with them and will head back to market.

He has a 3 year contract offer sitting on the table after talks had progressed for months, The deal was expected to almost be a fait accompli.

In other news, rival CEO's have written to the NRL rejecting a proposal for the Bears to get salary cap exemptions, arguing they were of the belief the Bears would be on a level playing field to them when they entered the competition.

one NRL club chief executive said.

“We were told 18 months ago what the rules would be and we agreed to them, and we don’t believe the goalposts should be shifted now,”

I still think it’s a deliberate set-up for failure

They’ve never really given a shit about Perth, and they’ll let them fail so they can say “well you’ve had 2 chances now and both failed so no more sorry not sorry”
