NEWS Player Ratings: Broncos v Roosters

They need to get the whole roster of 30 in the ring and let the ones who are busting a gut let it be known to the others how they feel about their lack of commitment. Boyd's attempted one handed grab of Croft's kick was a fekkin insult (as was last week's poor effort). When he made the break with Oates all he had to do was commit Morris by putting his body on the line and then pass to a free running Oates, but instead he ran towards the sideline AWAY from Morris which effectively cut Oates' already narrowing field of scope. Let Paddy Carrigan or Payne Hass put a few on his chin and demand he show some fight. It's a year gone since Benny left and the bastard is still sooking. If he's in the team next week I'll be switching off for the first time since 1989.

What are the odds Milford asks for a release during the week

Zero... only way he leaves at the moment is if he signs a new deal somewhere else starting 2022.

Things will become "untenable" and Broncos will let him go early

He might go to Newcastle with McC to partner Pearce. He'd push Kurt Mann out in a heartbeat if they could get a subsidized deal from us.

There's no way Newcastle have a spare $1m in the cap to cover Milf... and if Broncos let him go whilst paying freight they can get fucked

Maybe the Knights can hire the Rorters accountants?

Would paying Milford (he doesn't deserve a nickname) out count against the 2021 cap? We have the leagues club for funding the shortfall.

short answer yes ...

longer answer is that any shortfall between the million we are paying him and the significantly less that a rival would pay him, gets counted on our cap for the remainder of his contract (in this case until the end of 2021)

I was more thinking about the legal ramifications of paying out his contract as a termination of employment. Are you saying that his future would still be linked to us regardless of if he was in our employment or not?

The ‘Nigger Brown’ stand controversy was the end of quality league in Toowoomba.
Genuine question- In what way? Honestly we can't have signs like that peppering the landscape.

Milford would have to royally **** up in an off field controversy in order to avoid a drawn out legal battle. That's a sad reality for us, because Milford is about as likely to be thrown in the back of a cop car in his life as he is getting serious about winning premierships.

that's how the NRL salary cap works

there are no legal ramifications if he gets his full contract for 2021 ... there are salary cap ramifications though

Damn, I thought that a terminated (financially) contract would allow us to free up 2021 cap space. Just thinking on the legal side that a contract is an agreement to pay a certain amount for services rendered, and in lieu of services rendered in 2021, he got a lump sum. What a shame.

The man himself had no problems with the nickname, the stand was erected in memory of a great player who contributed to NRL in Toowoomba. It only became an issue after his death and sadly ended with the complete destruction of a monument to someone who is no longer with us.
