Matt Gillett has polled a LOT more times this season that I would've thought, I thought he had a really average year, he was great defensively, but I mean in attack he had like 3-4 good games in total.

I think that had more to do with Hunt's inability to put someone through a hole on his right side. Something I hope Bennett will address this pre-season...

Ben Hunt's two consecutive MOTM in the finals, helped him catch up to Milford, to set-up a grand finish. Adam Blair climb up the ladder put him right next to the underrated Matt Gillett in position to snatch 3rd spot from Corey Parker.
The Ladder before the Grand Final was looking like this:

Name
MOTM2nd3rdTOTAL
Ben Hunt
63226
Anthony Milford45426
Corey Parker42117
Adam Blair23214
Matt Gillett31314

Justin Hodges0146
Jack Reed1003
Alex Glenn0113
Corey Oates0113

Darius Boyd0022
Lachlan Maranta0011

Although Glenn (1x third), Boyd (1x third), Oates (1x first, 1x second, 1x third) and Reed (2x second, 3x third) received votes, none of them made the GF top 3, so the ladder remained unchanged for the bottom 6, and this was the final tally for them:

6th to 10th also remained unchanged, as only Kahu received votes (2x second, 1x third) in the GF.

All Top 5 players received votes in the Grand Final, and the ladder did change, but Matt Gillett's effort (2x second, 7x third) only got him 4th spot and no points were added to his total, as such...

Matt Gillett has polled a LOT more times this season that I would've thought, I thought he had a really average year, he was great defensively, but I mean in attack he had like 3-4 good games in total.

I'm surprised by his placing, but not shocked.

Gillett has a ton of admirers who are always going to have him there-abouts in their 3,2,1s.

Chuck in losses which tend to draw the least amount of votes (with the exception being the early rounds because fans are excited) and players with his following are always going to pick up points they may not deserve.

In a sense, it does expose the limitation of this popular system. Gillett's Round 1 performance wasn't as good as Milford's Round 25 performance for instance, except this system says otherwise.

With that said, Gillett was good this season and hopefully he'll be used more effectively in 2016.

Adam Blair certainly did his best to reach 3rd spot, equal with Corey Parker, and his votes reflected this. With one MOTM, 13 second and 7 third votes, Adam did come short, but was the second most voted player, adding 2 points to his total...

Corey Parker was never going to let anyone catch him, and did enough to secure a third place and 1 point in the GF voting, with 4x MOTM, 7x second and 6x third votes, which earned him the bronze medal in this season's POTS race...

Was always going to be thereabouts. Absolute champion of a player.

Given what happened in the Grand Final, Ben Hunt's performance didn't warrant enough votes (1x MOTM, 1x third) to win any points, leaving his ladder position in jeopardy. It won't come as a surprise that he couldn't hang on to first spot.

On the other hand, Milford's performance should probably have earned him the Clive Churchill medal, despite being in a losing team. His vote count crushed every one else's this game, and more importantly, a Player of the Season victory in his first season at the Broncos.

Well deserved, had to be out of those two guys, if Hunt had a better GF he would've won it.

Thanks for doing this Port!

Adapted to the five-eighth role faster than pretty much all of us thought he'd be able too. Fantastic season, huge talent, can't wait to see what the future brings.

Interesting to see that an outside back doesn't feature until #9 (Kahu). Obviously we won games off our halves, and the space the forwards afforded them. Also rings true of the report that Bennett hasn't even started tweaking the team's attack. The question is, with an increased focus on attack next year, are we going to lose some in defence? Right now I don't care - just excited for Milf and Hunt, congrats to those two for their deserved spots at the top, and Parker for once again showing the world what your 30's should be like as a forward.

People voted for Hunt in the Grand Final? Like as a joke or something?

Remarkable effort, to come from being player of the year at an below average club. To being player of the year in a grand finalist club in a new and more pressured position. All of this for a 21 year old. Sky is the limit for this bloke, could be one of the genuine greats of the game.

After having some time since the season ended to think about it properly, we were expecting plenty out of Milford before his arrival. Fair enough he wasn't exactly replacing anyone spectacular (how would our opinions be if this was the post Locky year) but still, we had a moderately high bar for him, especially coming into a position that he was mostly foreign to.

I think I speak for everyone when I say, he exceeded expectations. He started off slow in his "cooling off" period so-to-speak, that time that everyone was giving him in the first 10 or so rounds to find his feet in a new position, and then all of a sudden, everything just clicked. And he was off and running and didn't look back.

Were it not for J.T, I would argue he was the best half in the comp this year. At least when you factor in where and when he started. Just an unbelievable talent and I am soooooo happy that we have finally found the guy, the young man who has proven to be Ben Hunt's long term halves partner, and more importantly, the quality replacement for Lockyer that we so desperately needed.
