POST GAME [PREMIERS, 2025] Broncos vs Storm

Great stuff @Big Pete

My first season was 2008 so this was my first taste of a premiership. The 2008 semi, missing finals 2010, 12-14 malaise, 15 GF loss, 16-18 drop in standards, the Seibold experiment, 2020 spoon, the Kevvie rebuild, 23 GF loss.

It just feels like all that crap has been washed away. At the same time the desire for sustained success has amplified 🤞🏻

My missus and daughter cheered when the siren went, I was like stop cheering we haven’t won yet. And then Riki
It's going to live in my memory forever. The game ended with the ball in our hands from an intercept to shut it all down.

I'd become too conditioned to some crazy heartbreaker finish.

Hard to believe that in 19 years between drinks there was only 3 years where we had a chance
We had a legit chance in 2008 but the cheating ****ing storm robbed it from us, and 2009 when we were knocked out by the CHEATING ****ING STORM (See also thread: The Storm Hate thread). We also had a chance in 2011 but Gerard Beale took that from us tho I guess. So I reckon we had a few more than 3 chances........

Him and Sims. Unforgivable. 2008 / 2011 were ours.

One major point melbourne's tendency to milk for penalties at every opportunity shows is just how damaging a penalty can be nowadays. It is obviously built into their game plan. At one point with 15 to go melbourne were trapped in their own 20 and Joey Johns says "melbourne would love a penalty right about now" it was as if he knew their script to get out of their own end without trying. It happens so often with them.

No matter how far back they are on the field that penalty gets them out of trouble and on the attack with their whole team setup for set play after set play. This invariably results in them scoring in that set of six and if by chance they don't they go searching from tackle 4 onwards for another penalty (ducking into the tackle) or a six again (stepping off the mark to have the markers called as not square, or making it like a player has impeded them) which just about guarantees them scoring.

They are the undisputed masters of milking those momentum turning penalties. When you consider we held the lead on Sunday from the 58th minute - a full 22 minutes repelling wave after wave and milked penalty after milked penalty with bodies missing in their preferred position. To come out the other end victorious, it was perhaps one of the best passages of play in so far as team defensive efforts the Broncos have ever produced.

Paddy said something like "with 6 minutes to go I giggled to myself and said we're not losing this" when I read that I thought with 6 minutes to go all I kept thinking was -these shits will milk a penalty and snatch it from us right at the death. I just knew how clinical those bastards were when they got that unfair call.

Despite all that, we managed to hold on and like I said in an earlier post as that ball sailed towards the centre of the field I knew that Riki was going to intercept it. As soon as it left Katoa's hands I knew Jordon was getting that ball. That was when the blind panic and fear left me, that was the exact moment I knew we had it in the bag.

That was when the line I had been finishing each and every one of my posts in the week leading up to the game came true.......

We've got this!!
Joeys a broken record with the “would love a penalty now” shit. He also always throws out for whichever team is losing “would love a try before half time”

This popped up in my feed, just watch the puss they got away with in 3 tackles.

Should have easily been a six again on Piaks. Patty gets smashed in the head. Munster not square at marker and pushes Ben Hunt. None of it called.

And they keep making a big deal of Walsh not getting binned and our last try having a forward pass. This was our game, dealing with this shit all afternoon.

Amazing runs by hetherington and carrigan to set that play up

The wife is up the coast looking after her sick mum. Daughter is working tonight so I've got the house to myself.

Cracked a nice bottle of red. Going to finish it and then drop a few tabs of THC and then re-watch the whole game and try to pretend I don't know the eventual outcome.

Every-time we score I'll have me a dram of Royal Lochnagar (single malt special reserve), and every-time the storm cheat I'll have me another.
