NEWS Proposed 2026 rule changes

Rule changes confirmed now from NRL

The 6 man bench is confirmed.

For some stupid reason they're not changing errors in goal to 6 tackles instead of 7 tackle sets.

They've also done away with the kick off change, but the ****ing morons are going ahead with the change to six agains... bringing them back from 40m to 20m.

Chuck an asterisk next to this season, because the 2021 shitshow is about to start up again.

That was the worst rule proposed out of all of them and yet it's come back in.

I see that Cleary was part of the coaches involved in the initial proposing of rules and I have no doubt this was him... Panthers are undoubtedly one of the biggest beneficiaries of having more 6 agains in the game over penalties because of Cleary's boot.
Well I suppose.. at least they aren't changing the kick off...

I don't see why they consult with some of the coaches.. they are the ones who only want what best for their team and are willing to manipulate the rules to their benefit...
If they really want coaches input talk to all of them not just a few..

NRL /- New Rules League

Every year new rules...

They are changing it.

Accidental breach (“zero tackle”) in-goal – There will be no seven-tackle set following a knock-on in-goal by the attacking team.
Thank god I must've misread it.

Been listening to SEN and getting so confused with what they're actually doing.

Then the NRL part for that just slips it in without a subheading... so thought they weren't doing it.

Still filthy that they're bringing the game back to 2021... can see it looking like a farce from round 1 and wont take long for them to ditch it... unfortunately we've got Penrith in round 1

If you’re dominating a team and they select to receive the kick off, you’re going short every single time.

Might as well just replace kick offs and drop outs with a coin toss for possession
It is a rather smart way for the NRL to reduce the big contact/ concussions from the kick off without mass whinging from purists

^^ V'landys likes Union.

And, we'll see players landing on their heads instead.

so with the 6 man bench rule coming in:

Question 1: How does everyone set up their benches.

Question 2: will this neutralise the impact of having a genuine utility player (e.g. Billy Walters)

I think you set up the bench with the standard 3 forward + 1 utility.

for the other 2 players I'd have an outside back and a genuine half
