I'm goign to argue that getting smashed in a finals as an assistant coach is GOOD experience, Life's best teachings often come from adversity or bad experiences.
How different would those finals be if he was HEAD coach now? JD has one of the best non-head coach resumes period. That's all you can judge on without a chicken and the egg scenario.

He is the kind of head coach that will lead a team to finals year in, year out.

2016 - NSW Cup Premiership
2017 to now - NRL Assistant coach to Bennett.

That is so far above and beyond what Brennan has done. It's not a guarantee he will do well in the NRL, but holy shit that's a resume of a potential winner.

It's not, they're nearly identical.

That was always a media / fan excuse. They're professional athletes, if they can't hack hard training, back to Q-Cup or the brick factory.

Both Souths and Brisbane will be better next year after a full season of settling into things.

In the next year or so our team will be settled and pushing for a GF win. I hope we get Souffs in a GF final with JD as HEAD coach and we smach them. That over exuhberant punching of the air in the box will live with me for a long time.
