Raiders in Carney Cover-Up

I'd love to know how every incident gets reported straight to the media, things like this as degrading as they are for the pissee should just be sorted on the spot and left there.

Times have changed I suppose but some of the things we as a club got up to in the 80s/90s were rediculous but never went anywhere and the players involved were certainly high profile enough.

On 1 trip away the local coppers horse was borrowed and bought a beer inside a public bar the horse was downing the beer at the bar when the copper found him.

A players room was filled with chooks because he went to sleep early. There was chook shit everywhere in the morning.

2 players totally stripped in a nightclub on the dance floor, the locals just went along with it, then another player hosed them across the room with the fire hose.

This was all in the same 2 day period and are only the things that hapenned publicly.

Because Sydney (and now unfortuantly, Brisbane) is full of 2-bit media hacks, who claim to love RL, but are in fact, the people who are doing the most damage to it.

And now some players dig the hole even deeper, hope Carney is sacked but I don't want to lose him because he is a talent. If he gets sacked he will find a home overseas or in RU in no time, another elite player bites the dust.

It is the medias job to report all these incidents and stretch them out even bigger so as to make them interesting.
Don't buy newspapers if you believe the crap written.
I don't. I do admit to reading it elsewhere and no better place than here to get the really crappy stuff from the paper [icon_wink
Dexter players of the 90's and before got up to so much shit but the players of today know that their every move is watched and they have been warned and told by their respective clubs they are under the spotlight. It is much differant for sportspeople now to back then.

The only reason Carney hasn't already been sacked is because Canberra would get the spoon without him. I have no doubt that everything Irwin said is 100% true. Carney is a dirtly rotten little scumbag that belongs at the dogs.

+1. Carney is scum, however the media that covers RL, is destroying this game more so than any other single thing at the moment.

I don't know about this one - I definitely think Irwin was seen as more expendable and made the scapegoat. But I also know the guy a little bit and whilst he can be a twat he never struck me as someone who would make up a story like this - I mean what does he have to gain at this point by coming out and telling people the club asked him to lie to the police? Then again, I probably wouldn't have thought he would lie to the police in the first place so [icon_shru And as others have said - Canberra are in a completely lose-lose situation asking him to lie to the police and then sacking him. (As an aside I still would have thought Carney had the greatest fault drunk or not as he actually fled from police and was driving unlicensed). The whole thing just has a completely shonky feel about it, also how the latest allegations were suddenly withdrawn against Carney, but not Goodwin. I hope Carney gets himself sorted out soon because he is an awesome player.

Yeah he would really want to repay the constant favours from the club back ASAP. It is just like Wayne Philips getting sacked at Newcastle but not Adam MacDougall due to the vast difference in player quality.

I like Carney. The Raiders were in town pre-season and I had a beer with him (no, he didn't redistribute his beer down my leg) and he's a genuinely funny, likeable bloke. And he's a great player as well, Canberra's best. I want to see them do well and I doubt that they can without him. So don't sack him, put him on probation; no drinking for the rest of the season. If he does drink fine him $10K and make him play group 16 CRL for the week.
The bloke is a talent but he's pissing it all away. Fair enough for a young bloke to go out and get up to mischief but Carney is too high profile to get away with it. Pull your head in mate.

Just heard that Carney has been banned from first grade for the rest of the season and will be allowed to play next season and beyond, pending alcohol "counciling" and other softcock rubbish like that.

*EDIT* ooo there's a "five point plan" too!

Yeah - let's have some more alcohol advertising on TV.

And after tonight, the Titans can help sponsor it.

Step 1) Step up to the Urinal
Step 2) Unzip Pants
Step 3 and this is the key one) Pee INTO the Urinal
Step 4) Zip up Pants
Step 5) Wash hands and leave toilet.

WIsh I could claim I was the one who thought that up.

Interesting. The NRL have said if Carney doesn't take Canberra's offer they will deregister him for 2009.

Also interesting they're going to lobby the ESL to honour the ban if that's the case. Gallop's comments are LOL funny though:

However, Gallop has confirmed that the NRL might even lobby the English RFL to honour the ban if Carney elects to leave.

"It is difficult to enforce if he goes overseas, I don't think we have ever had one before where we have cared," Gallop said.

"But in his case we would have to consider it."

LOL! Exodus? What exodus? We don't care about any of you leavers! :P

About time the NRL took a stance like this. NRL de-registering players for minimum 12 months if they are sacked for behavioural issues like this is the only way to ensure that the clubs will take such action. The only reason Raiders didn't sack him immediately is from fear that another club will snap him up cheaply and he'll be the gun player for them.

And agree - good choice of words Gallop - idiot

If he is de-registered he will just go to England.

I think that's what Carney wants.

Let him go - I don't think he's be missed by too many.

But anyway Gallop is trying to lobby the ESL to support the actions of the NRL and not allow him to play for a minimum of 12 months, so that might not be an option anyway (not that I think the ESL will stop him playing).

He deserves this TBH all he seems to do is get on the drink and end up in court he is a clown.

If the NRL de-register him can he play in SL or maybe France Union
