PLAYER Reece Walsh

What's going on here?

Poor from Reece, Mariner and Riki... Reynolds got stepped, but Riki should've done better coming from the inside.

Walsh overcommitting way too hard and gave Kris any easy run to the line

Look at them all in the middle, bunched up and walking. Zero sense of urgency, nobody sliding.

As much as the edge defence missed one on one tackles, a lot of our issues started in the middle and left too much space on the edges.

No idea what caused it. Maybe Billy did more to organise the middle defence than I thought, or maybe they are all just still unfit and struggled on a hot day, maybe it’s bad defence coaching or habits built last year. Walsh not communicating in defence? Not sure but it’s a real concern

Good point... definitely not enough urgency to keep pushing from the inside... Payne walking the entire time is not a good look from someone in the leadership group, at least Kobe kept his feet moving the whole time and actually had to run around Payne to get closer to Kris by the time he got to the tryline

Fullbacks need to be organising. I doubt Reece isnt vocal, but i dont think he has a clue how to organise the blokes in front of him. I was never in favour of giving a bloke with half a skill set to his game a huge contract, and i'm still not happy with it. Another instance of us giving a player a contract he isnt worth because we are so afraid to lose them.

All i am hoping is this is a bit of a wake up call and he can become the player we need him to be. I think too many people have been carried away with his attacking brilliance and its papered over his defence because he's just top level as an attacker.

We dont want to go in and crucify him because he's got the talent, but he's almost 23 with over 80 games of first grade and Origin under his belt, he's not an inexperienced player. He needs to start delivering on the less flashy parts of his game.

It's the giving up on the plays that are most concerning. Really un-Slater like.

Yep totally agree, unlike some others I do think there is some definite cause for concern. It was a bad sign in round 1 when he botched a simple try with 3 support players around him by trying to run around Tedesco. Gonna be very interesting to see how he plays this week.

Paul Crawley highlighted Will Kennedy's poor defensive efforts in Vegas on 360 and I don't think they were as bad as Walsh vs the raiders..

It was all time shocking but I still can't believe that Starling one was given a try. It could not have been clearer coming off an offside player.
Imagine that try is scored against Canberra - Ricky marches on NRL headquaters.

Absolutely diabolical call

Yep exactly but remember, coaches have a gag order this season...well anyone not named Stuart or Robinson though of course, Robinson being on his 857th last warning.

No excuse .
Ref got it wrong -Play to the whistle . Bungler got it wrong - Play to the whistle

I can't put my finger on it tbh. I love the guy but I must say, I've always found him a little...overrated. The skill set is 100% there and you just can't coach speed, but at some point you're going to need more than just the speed. Nor can you continue to overlook the wrong choices in attack and defence...or the lack of effort at times.

Something definitely seems to be off with him and as others have said, he just hasn't seemed the same player since Origin last year. Hopefully Madge can work out what it is and get to the bottom of it. I'd love him to get some more 1 on 1 time with Slater but don't want him selected for Origin. I'm pretty sure, injury permitting that he'll be overlooked for Ponga this year anyway.

Who's he had as a coach? Kev obviously but who did he have at the Warriors? Webster wasn't there yet I don't think...was it Stacey Jones as an interim or something?

Yep, there's rarely any end product there. It's all show, but when it comes time to execute it, there's a wayward or forced pass, or a dropped ball, etc. It's incredibly frustrating.

The bloke needs to go back to basics and focus on consistently getting the little things right. He's far too gung-ho, and wants to play the game at one hundred miles an hour.

Every time he's interviewed he seems to say all the right stuff, but I question whether his mentality is correct on the field. Too much wanting to be a superstar all the time without doing the hard work first.

Maybe it's a combination of things. Maybe Madge is trying to put new processes in place for Reece, and it's still very much a work in progress. Madge could be trying to enhance Reece's game plan .. but engraining it in on Reece is going to take some time. Big learning curve for him.

Few people have mentioned that Reece doesn't look or hasn't looked the same since Origin.

Speaking from the perspective of someone who's been through it, a significant concussion obviously can take a long time to heal.

It's taken me years to get rid of that 'everything seems dull' sensation. Almost all of my senses including sight were affected by it. I could see absolutely fine no problems with vision so to speak but it was just that all the colours seemed a bit duller. Even my thoughts were just all fogged up. Also I stopped listening to music for well over 2 years.

It is possible that both Reece and Cobbo might have been going through the same kind of thing. Idk .. just been thoughts since the incidents happened and I really hoped that they didn't have to go through some long haul shit show.

He is really stagnated, he needs to see a psychologist or something to work on calmness under pressure because he implodes more often than not when the pressure is on. I really hope Maguire tells Hunt and Reynolds they have the reigns, Walsh to take a back seat. Tell Reece you only run it, do nothing else until coach tells you so. He goes for the hero play too often, he needs to show he can put the team first.

Don't worry just have to wait for the Annesley briefing you clarify... oh wait ...

I guess we'll just wait for NRL360 and other media to raise it instead... so yeah swept under the rug, #PenaltyBroncos and all that
