PLAYER Reece Walsh

Wesser 127 tries
Peachey 117 tries

They are both less than 184. Both good players but they're not in Slater's class.
Seen as try scoring has suddenly become the only metric for fullbacks for some weird reason...

188.7660550567..
That's how many tries rhys lesser would have scored with the same amount of games. In a Penrith early 2000's team vs prime Melbourne storm team 2 million over the salary cap... ffs Wesser is the greatest of all time! Revolutionary!!!!

Revolutionised the game by just scoring a lot of tries... why the **** did no one else just do that!!!

Alex Johnston fucking immortal the day he retires... has changed the game for wingers!!

It's not the only metric but if you are asked how he changed the game, and no other fullback has done it then it becomes a reason.

Again sort of like Gilchrist- his batting changed the role of wicketkeeping so if you were asked how did Gilchrist change keeping- he scored a lot of very big quick runs- when no other keeper had done it in those other 150 years. You might still have Heals as your best keeper though.

Ken Irvine has more than him so he hasn't changed the game.

Slater was an all timer but he also benefitted massively by playing in a team systematically cheating the cap for years...and he freaking got that stinking drop kick try, that shouldn't even count on his record. That was a farce.

Slater may well be the greatest fullback of all time but it isn't because he scored more tries than anyone else.

If you want to use tries as a metric do it as a tries per game, not total. Total tries is irrelevant when Slater played 300 games and someone like Mullins was around the 200. Slaters try scoring feats on percentage is on par with Mullins and I’m guessing a number of other fullbacks.

Tries playing as a fullback per game according to Grok
Slater - 0.6
Mullins - 0.5
Locky - 0.5
Hayne - 0.57
Inglis - 0.55
Turbo - 0.54
Teddy - 0.57
Churchill - 0.47 (low scoring era)

Langlands 75 tries
Churchill 13 tries!
Lockyer 74 tries
Mullins 81 tries
Slater 184 tries at fullback

Try scoring isn't everything but it shows how the role changed and yes, I believe Slater played a big part in that.
Weren’t a pack of those tries when they were cheating the cap? His greatest average per game was that time

Lockyer changed the game, Slater stole the homework 😄
