Referees Out With Swine Flu

Just read that Maxwell and Suttor, along with the two sideline officials with them last game, have been quarantined under suspicion of Swine Flu. Will try and find the article.

Yeah, saw it on Fox Sports on the web. Apparently they were on the same flight as someone who has tested positive. So they're in mandatory quarantine for 7 days.

If the Swine flu spreads I can see this becoming a bigger problem though, particularly with all the travel that's done these days. I believe in the event of the Swine Flu reaching a certain level of something, that mass crowd gatherings are one of the first things to go, so I suppose it's feasible that we might even see a case of games being postponed etc. I'm a bit skeptical as to such a thing actually occurring though.

Yeah. There was a top level soccer game played with no crowd in Mexico. Saw photos of a massive 100000 seat stadium completely empty with the game going on. Bizarre.

Doubt it'd happen here.

Just imagine if they decided Melbourne was a hot spot and banned any sporting event say, next wednesday? Geez!

Yeah the authorities have talked many times since this swine flu thing started about cancelling sporting events and other large gatherings.

Things like the Ekka would be prime candidates you'd think. It's already a major cause of an increase in cold and flu infections in August.
