one of the biggest problems with signing 12 months out ... unless you're a Payne Haas level player.

12 months is a long time in rugby league. 12 months ago he probably would have walked into our backline somewhere too ... but Shibaski, Mariner and Karapani have come along in leaps and bounds to cement their spots in our backline

Agree. What stood out for me watching the WCC was his sheer size. Definitely has that alpha / mongrel about him

Couple of random articles in CM & others about him tearing the house down and how MM is super impressed with the way he went throughout the offseason, I was expecting good stuff from him. Sadly, he was no where to be found in the WCC game. Perhaps it all changes with him and dominates on the field once the regular season starts.

I asked last season whether we had enough quality depth in our 2nd row.

Reading the team list on Tuesday a year later, I feel like asking the same question again. WIth the usual suspect already injured again..

I hope I'm wrong and some guys emerge...

It has been confirmed he is the back up for Walsh at FB. Should see him play there during Origin

expectations are low this game. that said they were low for the entire 2nd half of last season all the way up to the final whistle of the grand final.

It's the first halves that worry me about how we go this season. We had a fantastic run to the grand final at the backend with how we finished games but there were a lot of games there where we made the job far harder then it needed to be in the first half. Address that and we can beat anyone.

Oh and if we could keep our spine together and fit that would be great.

Yep and that's all about defence.

Our defence needs to be way better than it was last year if we are to go back to back.

Our points against last year was ranked 7th at 21 points a game... that would have to be one of the lowest ranked defences to win the comp in a long time.

I think 16pts per game is regarded as elite level defence... so we have a bit of work to do.
