I've been re-watching this game and despite being awful, we were actually doing alright up until the ridiculous video ref overturn on Jenkins. That should be sackable for the video ref, absolutely disgraceful. The captain's challenge is for howlers, not 50-50s and that was a 50-50 AT BEST.

Given Penrith played ok, the fact we dropped the ball so much, got smashed by the ref as usual, it isn't surprising it blew out a bit in the end. For as bad as both teams were overall, Penrith took their opportunities and we didn't but man, every call that could have gone their way did and they took advantage as great teams do.

It isn't all doom and gloom for us though, I don't think we can play that badly again...surely.
Gus on 100% footy put it well i.e. The Panthers didn't play that well, they just allowed us to beat ourselves. They only scored 4 tries - 2 off kicks, 1 from and intercept, and 1 through a clearly concussed player.

It is impossible for us to play any worse than what we did.

Most alarming thing for me was how easily our forwards were contained. Haas&Patty only ran for about 110-120m and both needed 14 hitups to do that. Gosiewski is a real headache, he stood out during the game, and not in a good way.

Probably gassed from all the defending I reckon. We didn't have the ball much

It is all about the line speed Penrith have and our slow play the balls.

There was obstruction of the defence in that try as well .
Decoy runs into the defence and blocks defenders .
There was an early obstruction where Payne threw his hands up channelling his best Darius Boyd and just gave up on the play instead of playing to the whistle.

On challenges, you should only be able to challenge the refs decision, not what he missed 3 tackles ago and you should give your ruling. Should the team challenge with the incorrect ruling they should still lose, even if the actual result would have given them the overrule.

And no 6 agains should the marker find themselves not square due to the attacker not playing the ball on the mark, they just get called out of play.

Walsh drops the high ball and Panthers score in this set.

It could not have been a more obvious obstruction, just crazy it wasn't called.

It's on us for not diving too. Look at how many penalties were won for blockers on kick reception due to diving in Round 1. If you feel you are obstructed, you've gotta throw yourself to the ground to get the call.

That Haas example is for sure an obstruction, but clearly the throwing hands in the air wasn't enough and it needed some more 'mayo' for it to be seen by the idiot with the whistle.

Same with the Edwards try... Paix just has to run into the obstruction and fall over ... because he didnt apparently the obstruction doesn't exist.

the amount of serious injury related tackling techniques that have orginated out of that club is insane.
I dont care if bellamy wins 10 comps in a row. i will always maintain the man is scum and has done nothing but made rugby league worse since his coaching career started.

the day he retires will make me neally as happy as broncos beating them twice now in a grand final
Spot on mate. And he won't and can't win 10 in a row, because the only he has ever won was with generational talent/s and blatant salary cap cheating - sometimes both.
I accept he is excellent at creating a system and having fringe/average players plug in, but for mine that is his main skill.
I think he is criminally overrated.

Panthers #10 also becomes a blocker by stopping in behind the line of defence. The Storm also strategically place sleeper players in awkward areas during set plays to, I've started calling them NPC's..
