POST GAME Round 1 - Broncos vs Eels

Yeah but they waited until the Eels had the ball to stop play didn't they?
Yeah but we let play go on until we turned it over. As soon as the Eels got it, the hand went up.

Refs should have stopped it much sooner, he was in front of the posts. Definitely advantaged the Eels to stop it when they did.

It was the smart thing to do tactically to wait until the eels had possession before the trainer stopped the game but yea, probably should’ve looked after John’s health first

Not sure about that... we probably could've used a breather to compose ourselves and figure out how they were going to play with Asiata off the field

Just randomly, when Asiata went down and play continued for the entire set did our trainer call for time to stop? I just noticed in the Raiders game their trainers hand was up straight away, but I don’t remember seeing ours do it and it occurred right in front of me.

He signalled to the doctor straight away and Hislop was on his way and held his arms out flat to indicate to the ref we need the medicab. It took the ref a while to stop.

Have we lodged a complaint to the NRL for a please explain??

It is hard when the ref is only watching one way.

Speaking of Carrigan, I also hope he can develop an offload or a quick play the ball if he continues to be the one to keep running on the 4th.
I mean he'll probably keep getting away with it, you can't really get mad at players who work hard, but it really limits the attack when its him and not somebody like TPJ running late in the count.

That is what they’re supposed to do. When play moved towards the injured player he stopped it. Last season everyone complained about them stopping play too soon.

Almost game this weekend seemed to have had a referee stopping play for someone further away than Asiata was and on the play they went down or one after.

Not if they're calling for a stretcher.

If it's minor and in the backfield, then the ref stops as soon as the play may interact with the player, but if a fucking medicab has to come onto the field it's not like they just leave the player lying on the ground until there's a break in play.

You said he called for the stretcher straight away, that is an automatic signal to the ref that something serious has happened and they need to stop play.

Can you just imagine the NRL receiving a complaint from us...

Probably every chance they would try to disregard it, but we should at least put it in the spotlight to highlight a double standard and obvious mistake by an official.

There's precedent that the officials must stop play if the trainer indicates that the incident is serious. You may recall an incident with Nene Macdonald a few years back where he broke his ankle, but the ref decided to play on despite calls from the trainer to stop the game (article below).

There was outrage from all and sundry, and the refs were promptly dumped.... by highlighting a similar occurrence, except this time with us, we can at least bring the hypocrisy into the spotlight and ask for a please explain as to why the referee decided to not stop the game for a possible neck injury even though our trainers were calling for it.

We can start trying to change the narrative that the referees favour the Broncos, even though they so clearly dont, and see if the NRL will actually do something about it after it's raised in the public eye

He was with two trainers and a doctor, when Hislop got there the ref stopped play. It still took the medicab a few minutes to get out once the play was stopped.

He wasn't in pain on his own without attention. Play going on didn't change anything. I thought the Medicab took too long but everyone else was fine.
