Round 1 Discussion

It's a good call for Morgan, but I don't think it suits the team.

Like all playmakers, JT plays well when he has others he can defer to allowing him to pick and choose his moments. I think they would have been better off going with Lui/JT.

Mind you, maybe Green is a believer of karma?

VODAFONE WARRIORS
1 SAM TOMKINS
2 TUIMOALA LOLOHEA
3 KONRAD HURRELL
4 SOLOMONE KATA
5 MANU VATUVEI
6 CHAD TOWNSEND
7 SHAUN JOHNSON
8 JACOB LILLYMAN
9 THOMAS LEULUAI
10 BEN MATULINO
11 BODENE THOMPSON
12 RYAN HOFFMAN
13 SIMON MANNERING (c)
Interchange:
14 NATHAN FRIEND
15 BEN HENRY
16 SAM LISONE
17 ALBERT VETE
18 SUAIA MATAGI

Looks like McFadden is serious about winning a premiership. Lisone and Vete are two of the better props coming through and can provide the Warriors with plenty of grunt through the middle, not just in 2015 but beyond.

Glad he's taken a chance on Leuluai over Friend. I've got plenty of time for Nathan but he hasn't been the same since 2010 and the Warriors require a bit more guile out of dummy half. Hopefully this works out for the best.

The Warriors are still going to lose, but at least they're going to get something out of these losses.

So much for Lachlan Coote getting first crack.. was that article before just completely guessing lol

Didn't Trent Robinson say Blake Ferguson won't be there round 1 and would have to work his way up from the lower grades?

14 Quick Thoughts...

Eels - With the additions of Peats and Watmough in combination with potential improvement in others - can see them as well if not better without Hayne. I'm excited to see them play.

Sea Eagles - Not the prettiest side on paper but still plenty of talent on show. All eyes on DCE and whether or not he can put behind his disappointing 2014.

Knights - It may sound impressive that they've got an international as their 18th man but in practice I think it's a bad selection. Very hot and cold 1-5 and I'd want to give Sione some assurances before he jets off to Canterbury.

Titans - Obviously read too much into Don's selections in the trials and Henry's gone for a more predictible back three. Pettybourne at prop threw me but I'd imagine it's nothing more than Henry being creative where he can with numbers. They'll be happy they just got a 17 on the field at all.

Tigers - Lot of exciting players mixed with not so exciting. Should put the boots to the Titans and I'll enjoy watching them do it.

Cowboys - So much for Coote. They're looking pretty solid but still have a few duds in their team that stick out like sore thumbs.

Roosters - McIllwrick was one of the better hookers in the NYC but just never kicked on at the Raiders. Has a pretty good opportunity at the Roosters but is under all sorts because his name sticks out like a sore thumb. I expect Napa will switch around with Moa and interested to see Taukeiaho and whether he can add anything.

Panthers - Well I'll be - Jennings! Party at BroncosAlways! Good to see another young exciting talent given a shot. You never know, for all that bluster about the Knights, Penrith may have the best depth in the backline. Really interested to see how their bench will go, potentially it could be the best in the game.

Bulldogs - Surprised they didn't name Mybe or Cook on the bench for Lichaa - I'm not sure if that's wise so early to go all in on the rookie. Hope Rona makes the most of his shot over Thompson who really impressed me with his attitude but lacked a little in ability and of course Morris at fullback will be very interesting. He's had his moments in the past but has been exposed at some point - I don't think it's going to be any different at the Dogs.

Sharks - Boo! No Valentine! I get that Brown is there on experience and all-round play but the Sharks could do with some more flash. No Bird either...I'm basically down to watching the lesser Fifita brother and seeing if he can replicate his Indigenous All-Stars performance. I reckon he was pretty good that night and didn't get the wraps.

Raiders - Austin, Ropana, Cornish, Hodgson, Lee, Waqa, FPN....I'm interested to see how they'll go. Their pack doesn't do a lot for me but it's early days.

Dragons - Nabuli! This guy could be a nuffy for all I know but I don't care since I like his story and his athleticism. Not impressed with their pack or their 3/4s but they've got a couple of talents here and there and they'll have their say this season. Interested to see how Benji will go...

Storm - Champion effort by Smith to get back and really excited to see this next crop of talent coming through the Storm system. Mann, Koroibete, McLean, Harris even Finucane have a lot of improvement in them and it's just a matter of whether they'll reach it this year. I had a mate who had big wraps on Green...will be interesting to see if he was right all along and it was merely a Hagan/Stuart muck up than a personal issue.

I was shocked and disappointed that the Sharks didn't pick Valentine Holmes. Mitch Brown is an average winger while Holmes can bring so much more. I guess Holmes will get his shot when the inevitable Gordon injury comes.

Shut up!

Big Pete You'll be pleased to see that Jennings looks set to make his debut for the Wesley Snipers this weekend as well.

Sione goes from the Australian team to reserve grade. Makes sense.

I still don't how Vaughan keeps starting off the bench for the Raiders. I know in context of the match it doesn't matter if he plays heaps of minutes anyway, but it terms of his career it seems to have him less noticed. I guess playing for the Faders doesn't help either. He'd be pushing for Origin in other sides.
