Round 1 Discussion

Raiders penalty, Croker looks to break the deadlock.

He does it.

Raiders 24
Panthers 22

69 gone.

Not a terrible result here for Penrith. A try would have finished them, but a penalty goal with 11 to go gives them plenty of time to hit back.

They'll need a big defensive set off the kick off.

gotta say i had both teams pencilled in for a good chance at the wooden spoon this year. and neither side has done anything to make me think other wise.

what a dour amateur looking game. dissapointed

Two huge tackles there from Latimore.

Unfortunately it doesn't count for anything, as Mansour knocks it on and Sowie gives away a penalty.

Great set after scoring points from Canberra, Sezer with the inside pass to Wighton should have been a watch-winning play had it not been for Latimore.

The Raiders should have taken the tap, but they've opted for the goal.

Raiders 26
Panthers 22

72 gone.

RIP Teraneers.

Austin gone, my only replacement is Tyrone Roberts. I repeat Tyrone Roberts.

I'm happy with our first round performance after viewing this.

Segs broken arm... 69'ers have a problem, like the Crows.

Sloppy play off the scrum and that should be it for the Raiders.

Thats it. Well deserved try for Fensom.

heres hoping the warriors/tigers game offers an actual nrl looking game. feels like im watching a second string intrust cup game .

am i being to harsh?

Very good result for me. Get a correct tip plus the Raiders stay below us on the ladder.

1st game, lack of proper match fitness and it being 35 degrees plus all contributed to it being a bit sloppy.

guess you are right not like our game was exactly world class either i suppose.

still this was a shocker. good result for raiders imo they need it more then panthers

Good solo try there to Fensom to finish for the Raiders.

In the end, a solid 'get-out-of-jail' victory for the Raiders. If they had have lost that, it would have been a huge shot to their confidence but they hung in there and came up with the big plays when they needed to. There were some good signs from their new recruits and I thought a couple of their senior players (Papalii, Vaughan, Soliola, Croker etc.) stood up and did well for them. Still a couple of worrying signs from 2015 but it's a performance they can build on.

On the other hand, Penrith look in all sorts to me. They remind me a lot of the Broncos under Hook, where they've got the talent but simply lack the direction. I'm not about to write them off or bag Hook just yet but he's got to address some deficiencies from the game. As poor as the playmakers were, I thought their middle men really struggled. Campbell-Gillard had a strong 2015, but he looked off the pace in this game, McKendry is a player that peaked early and never kicked on, Latimore is a real handy bench option but that's all he is and Matagi is just very one dimensional. It really only gives them Merrin and as good as he is, he can't carry a team just yet. They've got a couple of really tough weeks infront of them against the Bulldogs and Broncos. They have to win either game to give themselves a chance here.

Hope Gaz just gave the Warriors the kiss of death with his tipping.

LOL what a weird start to this game, Warriors fail to find touch after penalty, give penalty to Tigers. Tigers from Penalty then get pushed into touch.

And after all that the Warriors will be happy to get through that set.
