PRE-GAME Round 11 - Cowboys vs Broncos

Morgan is basically a milf nightmare. He's one of those players that always seems to get the better of us.

Just like it Milford always seems to be a thorn the Cowboys side.

I think out biggest problem against the top teams like the Cows (Storm and Sharks) is our defensive line speed, we stand back hold the line and wait which gives their big men a chance to really chew up the meters, push through our line or even off load, by the end of their set they are always in a position to attack our line.

I thought the Storm did a really good job of shutting down Thurston in the second half last night. If we can do the same we'll be in with a big shot.

Hunt returning to somewhere near 2015 service is a big plus too.

Seems to me The Storm were onto Thurston's pet plays, they shut down his supports, were switched onto his short kicking game and watched him like a hawk.

Thurston creates the opportunities mostly for Morgan, Lowe and Cooper. They are the p[layers to watch. Thurston is only dangerous close to your line, unlike Milford who is lethal anywhere and everywhere.

It's the same old story. Control the middle, move the ball wide and watch for the rather predictable Cowboy pet plays.

What makes the Cowboys so good is that they execute so well, and that can be defended effectively by a team like the Broncos whose defence is second to none.

Having Blair and Glenn back will be huge for us especially in defence. I don't think Bennett will risk macca if he isn't 100%. This should be a game we should be up for and I would be disappointed if we weren't. If we can get our fair share of the ball, we have the attack to crack the cowboys unless they give us two points every time we visit their end (which they did last time pretty deliberately I might add to)

I just hope Blair gives jt a thing or two to think about

The Storm also took Granville out of the game by working him in defense, he was struggling to even get back to marker at times and the Storm just kept making the yards playing direct...............Wayne was watching.

Why?

Thaiday has been decent when starting on the edge this season, but he doesn't have the fitness to play 80, which throws off the rest of the bench rotations. Glenn & Gillett starting on the edges and playing the full 80 is a very important part of our plan. Sam is fine off the bench, don't change a winning formula.

I agree our bench rotation doesn't work as well without thaidsy there. I really liked what I saw from him though. Our benchies showed they can handle longer minutes.

We did this to Granville at the Suncorp game last year. He was absolutely stuffed.

Its going to be tough in Townsville, the Cows will be fired up as well after the loss, but it would be great to damage the Cows confidence a bit more if we can come away with the win this week.

I realize that this is probably wishful thinking, but the Cows might be starting to show signs of the Rabbits' spectacular slump last year if they drop this game.

Last time we beat the Cowboys twice in the regular season was 2013.

Previous time before that was 2010.

They are getting harder and harder to beat at home. We've only won 1 of the past 5 games there.

But I'm confident we can win this one.

Cowboys will come out fired up. If we can weather the storm early, I'm confident we can grind out a win. They haven't been spectacular against the top teams that can defend..

Yeah I reckon they'll try and do what the Sharks did and come out throwing everything they have at us. If we can hold them out and get into our rhythm we'll go alright. Cows have a knack of playing out of their skins in the final 5 minutes too so if it's close I won't be too confident, we need to stick with them in the first and then start the second half well and try and set up a good lead and somehow contain Thurston.

One thing i will point out is that the Cowboys had a tougher game than we did. They were hit harder and had to defend harder. We may have the advantage in that regard but the Cowboys fire up after losses. Hoping we pip them though

A WHOPPING 210 kilograms of Queensland wing potential go head to head on Friday night, with the winner of Corey Oates’ battle with Kyle Feldt to earn a Maroons jersey.

Queensland’s Game One team is announced in just seven days and Maroons coach Kevin Walters and selector Darren Lockyer will be in Townsville on Friday night to watch the Cowboys battle the Broncos.

Twelve likely Queensland players will be on show as well as three potential Blues.

Fringe Origin players who need to perform include Cowboys Justin O’Neill, Gavin Cooper and Feldt for Queensland and Lachlan Coote for the Blues.

Broncos players who must perform to earn a jersey are James Roberts (Blues) and Oates (Queensland).

The major battle is Feldt against Oates, the pair reprising their memorable grand final war in which Feldt got the last laugh with his try after the full-time siren.

Queensland’s selection chairman Des Morris agreed Friday’s game would have impact on the selection table.

“It will be a telling contest,” he said.

“We know whereabouts we are with selections but it is now up to players to confirm or deny our thoughts.

“There will be a lot of players in this game who will be in the Origin side.

“It will be a great game. We are having a selection meeting later this week and another one the following week ...

“The key areas are obviously centre and wing. Nothing is set in stone but the selectors are all on the same wavelength.

The Australian team that was picked will be a guide too.”

That means Darius Boyd is a certainty to wear the No.1 for Queensland with Greg Inglis to move to left centre.

Oates’ form has held strong through all 10 rounds of Brisbane’s surge to the top, scoring nine tries this season, just behind teammate Anthony Milford’s 10.

Oates averages 130m and has also made 12 line breaks while his 105kg frame is built to help Queensland’s forwards get out of trouble in their own half.

Feldt has scored just seven tries with four linebreaks this season. However, Feldt has a rare skill in his kick-off ability with his bombs the hardest to catch in the NRL.

Oates said he was looking forward to the battle with Feldt.

“He’s a pretty good winger. He’s a good fella too,” Oates said. “He is a big boy himself so it will be a good match-up.”

I hope we beat them, just so we can all be entertained when JT and PG remind us that the refs, the weather, the length of the grass, the noise or whatever is to blame, before blaming themselves.

Oh god yes!!!!!

Glenn and Macca both trained strongly this morning.

Both of them are set to return against the Cowboys.

That would be a huge boost.
