Round 12 - Sea Eagles vs Broncos - Post Match Discussion

Are we watching the same Wallace? He hits the fullback/wingers on the full significantly more than he doesn't. Lockyer constantly outpoints him in general field kicking. He is ok close to the line but abysmal when kicking for distance.

Don't want to turn it into a Wallace bashing thread but he has been here for a number of years and I think we're still waiting for him to take the team by the scruff of the neck and lead them around the field.

+1, no more to see here.

(Really disappointed only because I sat in Glorious Section 301, Row 3 surrounded by Manly supporters...sob)

100% agreed with Rocky.

Our forwards were getting smashed last night, not even Thurston, Lockyer combo would have been able to do anything worthwhile.

I would rather have Wallace next year then not have him, that's for sure.

i agree wallace was good. he's been getting better with every week. he actually looked to create last night.

kenny has got to go.

Naturally last nights game was disappointing, but for me I know it sounds silly but I'm really concerned for next year without Lockyer. It just seems these young kids are just not ready for first grade, not full time anyways. I really think that many of them need more time in QLD Cup. I'm not sure if they are lacking the mental toughness or it's just their skills that need improving. It just seems that it looked like men verses boys out there. I said last week that maybe it was just a bad game now I'm not so sure. I did like Baptiste at hooker, he seemed to be quicker around the rucks and I'd like to see more of him in the future. Sharks is now a must win game.

I think our. Young halves would perform much better if our forwards stand up more often.

No matter how much this sounds like an excuse, let's not forget that we were missing Lockyer, Thaiday, Hodges, Gillett, McGuire and Hoffman. We also had Hannant, Yow Yeh and Parker backing up from Origin, and Te'o returning from injury. To add to the misery, Wallace go injured half way through the game and Te'o re-injured his arm too... It's a lot to take when you're playing a very good side like Manly, who was at full strenght and only had King backing up.

The game was really lost in the forwards, which greatly helped Hasler's game plan to attack the Norman/Copley/Yow Yeh trio paying off. For his first game in the NRL, particularly under such circumstances, Baptiste did quite well. He certainly didn't look lost out there and showed some crisp passing and tackled well too.

Hopefully we'll get a full roster back on the paddock soon, because although we have some depth, we can't cover for half a team of starting players missing out... [icon_shru

Absolutely. And +1 Rock

I'd still like to see Wallace at 9 with Baptiste at 7. I was impressed with Baptiste. He has confidence in his abilities.

It was great to find out who Noel Cleals sponsor was.

Lucky King didn't do anything on wednesday night so he was fit for Friday. Geeeeeze! Kenny was soooo terrible. OMG, he has to go.

I also thought Beale was rubbish too - he is only good in broken play, can't wait to get Hoffman back at fullback!

Wallace's kicking game was excellent and Macca was a lot better than the Panthers game.

Baptiste at halfback? Has he even played halfback...? He's a hooker, and that's where he should play. He's definitely not a half, his future is at hooker.

Yep! We spend so much time manufacturing hookers out of halfbacks, why go the other way? [eusa_doh

Sorry! I didn't know there was a gene for a half back, hooker or any other position.

Of course Thaiday has a prop gene, Lockyer a full back gene. Wallace ... yes, he was born a 5/8 isn't that where he started?

Apart from which I didn't know Baptiste was born a hooker, and was so experienced at hooker that he will play there for the rest of his life.

Lockyer to FB I say!

He's spent however many years now playing in the 9. You want to shift him to 7?

Meanwhile, McCullough and Hunt spent their junior careers playing in the 6 and 7 jersey and we've manufactured them into hookers (Macca especially)...I think that's bad enough, but when you've got quality junior halves you turn into hookers, it makes NO sense to convert a quality junior hooker into a halfback!

It's why I'm so thankful you're not a coach or selector at any level.

Macca seems to just be at hooker because he has to not because he is good at it

McCullough probably got manufactured into a hooker as he was never going to be quick enough to be a 5/8...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Cameron Smith play most of his junior football as a halfback?

I think he did. Which is where Coxy would select n coach him.

So in any case, what's the real difference between a hooker a half back in today's game?
