Injured playing Rugby League,
who’d have thought?

Proud to be a member of The Hill - Silvertails Manly Sea Eagles Supporter forums since Sep 2012.

This sport sucks, I look at the scores and remain super sad but super content in my decision not to watch it. I won't be coming back anytime soon, this regime is a disgrace.

Thank goodness for cycling, the AFL, Formula 1, NBA, Wimbledon and hot dog eating competitions!
totally feel you, mate. I know how big a fan you were. Your dedication to this forum is proof enough. I feel much the same. The veil has been lifted and I honestly don't know if I can go back. Sucks. l am literally just hanging around to see if I am right about the turnaround after Brisbane 2.0 establishes itself.

I wait for the day the $torm have to suffer what every other fan does. Then I realise, the NRL is so in bed with Melbourne that they will never be out out of the top 4 again, and most likely in the top 2 every year.

It's great to read your posts guys & Mrs Long. Makes the Warriors mess easier to take.
This season will come to an end eventually. We'll lick our wounds & look forward to next year & V'Landy's' next run of surprises. . Think we are all a bit covid weary & that includes the teams.

Barring some Tommy Turbo magic, we should just pencil in the $torm and Panthers for the next few grand finals. Each V'Landys rule change only makes them more dominant than they already are.

Maybe the Panthers might slip off as they lose players due to the salary cap. But the $torm don't need to worry about the salary cap because they'd done have one.

I remember when potential rule changes were "trialed" either in pre-season games or games at the end of the season that had no impact on the finals ... if the proposed rule changes were no good, then they weren't introduced into the season proper.

Vlandy's apparently doesn't like that method ... he prefers to trial the rules in the season proper, tinkering with them for another 3 weeks after ... if they don't work, he introduces new rules to try to fix what he broke with the last lot of rule changes 😡

Vlandy's could afford to start changing rules on the run because he already had the media in his corner (especially Sydney radio shock jocks), and was living on his big legacy in racing of taking down bookies and putting millions into new and existing Sydney races. Some have also said that the Sydney newspapers also love him because NSW Racing spent huge on advertising with them.

A lot of that support might be dwindling a bit now.

Vlandy's next "run of surprises" (that is, fully predictable) is to say at the end of 2021: "Well, obviously there were a lot of one-sided results that ruins the interest after a certain number, but we're sticking with the rules for 2022 and we believe as teams learn to adapt that the number of one-sided results will move back down to a long-term average." I'm sure someone - well, I hope someone - is watching the results/margins and comparing them with a long-term average winning margin/average total of points scored per game.

But this is the NRL that according to some people set fire to it's Rainy Day Fund by upping the Club Grants from $7.2m to $13m (John Grant's idea, I think) in 2018. So, nearly doubling it. Increasing it was fine, but can you seriously justify an increase of that size?! So I'll go with hope over sureity.

As to the new rules: Some people are pointing out that this kind of situation is what happens when the interchange lowers. Some teams take time to adjust so the first season will so a few more lop-sided results.

To make my position clear, I don't mind the lop-sided results every so often. Obviously, if a team is going through that good old "Rebuilding phase", they're going to be the victim of those results more often than not. In the same way I don't mind the grind that was the Warriors/Knights game (or was it Knights/Warriors? Who'd know in these "no Mt Smart games" times?) from a fortnight ago every so often. That's the issue here. There's too many performances of one kind.

Let us not also forget that by necessity we have to bow at The Alter Of Pay TV. Pay TV and Sponsors give the sports organisations like the NRL the money, the NRL have to Pay TV and Sponsors a product that will get them income to cover the money given and, in the case of Sponsors, a product that they will not be ashamed to support.

As to the new rules: Some people are pointing out that this kind of situation is what happens when the interchange lowers. Some teams take time to adjust so the first season will so a few more lop-sided results.

It's not just adjusting to the rules. It is restructuring the 17 to get the best out of the rules. Something teams struggle to do when the rules affect their marquee men the most (who they don't want to demote because of their reputation).

The Raiders are the team that has suffered the most from these rules changes. While they had backs that suit a quicker game, it has destroyed their game plan. The Raiders carry a lot of big forwards, and their game plan was simple but effective: use their fast backs earlier in the set to milk penalties with their fast play the ball and staging for penalties. Then when the refs blow the whistle, take the piggy back up the field, and then use your bigs like Pappali to attack the try line.

With the 6 again calls by the bunker, the Raiders backs don't get the same advantage of a penalty halfway up the ground. 6-again is nice, but not when you've lost 2-3 seconds of milking (enabling the defence to reset their line). And their forwards are forced to make harder yards getting out of trouble.

My own Cowboys are suffering under these rules because Taumalolo was by far the best lock in the world. But now, we can't afford to use the lock position as a third prop.

So mr blonde are you a expecting a better, more settled year next season or same shit on repeat repeat. Because I really have no idea of what to expect with V'landys other than NSW Rugby league will be the winner overall. imo interesting (not necessarily better) times lie ahead. You are right.
