PRE-GAME [Round 18, 2026] - Broncos vs Sharks

If Coates comes off the bench again for the Bears today for the second game in a row and only gets four minutes again then I don't think you can pick him for Sharks game.

You can't have a player playing eight minutes in three weeks.
That will help develop him! Thanks, Queensland Cup.

You'd assume there is a reason, Burt the premiership winning coach and former NRL winger didn't just wake up two weeks ago and say I will move my starting winger that's scored 10 tries in nine games to the bench and give him four minutes just for giggles.

I don't know that reason and more worrying no one else seems too either but that's why I said wait and see what happens today. But he's been named on the bench again.

Just ask mate I can help you.

I'd like to see Francis and Bryce debut but I'd probably prefer it to be when all our players are back on deck. Can't see the value of them being blooded in a flogging.

Oh man, Willison & Hass definitely out. Walsh likely on the bench for QLD. Sharks won’t be missing anyone. This could get ugly. Thankfully I’ll be at the Tivoli for Spiderbait and Custard.

I don’t have to ask. Burt developing his own wingers instead of ours is 100% reason enough to not give a **** about a dumb semi-professional competitions

We would love to see the likes of Francis and Bryce, but we all know they won't be picked.

It will be Riki and Gos in the front row, Rogers at lock and JHunt on the bench.

Our season is over and it's time to start giving a few younger players a run. Our biggest problem seems to be our running the ball out of our own half and I put that down to poor service from dummy half. It was quite noticeable last night that the moment Paix was off and Mozer was on that our forwards could run at full steam onto the ball. No rocket science there, Mozer passes from the ground and Paix feels some need to stand and pass causing our forwards to either have to check their run or receive the ball with the defence right on top of them.

I read in an interview that Reece played all his football in the halves till he was 17 and then moved to fullback. This explains his poor performance in catching bombs and his positional defensive lapses. I think next year Duffy should start at 7 and Walsh gets a whole off season to adjust to being a 6.

Haas going is certainly going to hurt our go forward but what we won't miss is his passive defence. When was the last time you saw the biggest guy on the field actually bend his back and put a hit on someone? Haas catches and stands, calling it a tackle isn't right. While on Haas, the guy has signed elsewhere so time to use him as what suits us. If we're short on forwards play him for 70-80 minutes if required. If that burns him out that's a Souths problem not ours.

My team for next year:
1 ?
2 Kaparani
3 Staggs
4 Gagai
5 Mariner
6 Walsh
7 Duffy
8 Semu/P Riki
9 Mozer
10 Willison
11 Piakura
12 J Riki
13 Carrigan
14 Walters

Goski and J Hunt need to be dropped back to Q Cup where they belong.

Walsh was a fullback at high school and Meninga. Off the bench for Qld in 2019 but fullback for Australian Schoolboys.

The only game at 6 I can remember is for Dolphins in Cup in 2021 his second and last Cup game. I can't speak for the Nerang Roosters though maybe he did play six there.

Did he play a game or two for Warriors at 6?

To make the eight you typically need 12 to 14 wins. We are currently on 5 wins with 9 games to play, so basically we need to win every game from now on. It's time for the cavalry to arrive whether they are ready or not, along with some hard decision to be made by Madge with the future in mind, plus a whole lot of miracles:

Mariner to come back as we have so desperately missed his carries out of yardage. If impossible, laugh all you like, but I would be putting Bradley into the team over Arthars. His runs this season in Q-Cup have been dominant, and some bigger bodies not getting folded every set is exactly what we need.

Billy needs to have a blinder Sunday and come straight back into the side, preferably starting hooker. Mozer to come off the bench again and Paix to be dropped. Ezra to come back and pair Duffy in the halves. Madge to tell Hunt and Reynolds we will be trying out the youth as something different. If it works, Adam you may not get to play again but we will have you as 18th man. If it doesn't, Adam get yourself ready to play out the last few games of your career.

Patty to come back, Captain the side, and put in the best performance he has ever done. Semu also to come back and put in his best performance possible. Francis to make his debut off the bench and let the NRL know who he is. Hopefully Xavier is showing no signs of concussion today and we ask for the standown to be waived.

With that in mind my team is:

1. Perham
2. Karapani
3. Staggs (NSW wont pick him)
4. Anderson
5. Bradley
6. Mam
7. Duffy
8. P Riki
9. Walters
10. Willison
11. Piakura
12. Riki
13. Carrigan (c)

14. Mozer
15. Talty
16. Semu
17. Francis

18. Reynolds
19. Arthars

Did I hear right in the presser that Madge said Patty, Mariner, Ezra and Reynolds are all in frame to be back? As well as Billy?

If Brisbane wanted to, they could always have Coates play the pre-game NRLQ game.

Blaming the Queensland Cup for the Broncos inability to develop talent is completely back to front.

The Broncos know what they're dealing with, they don't care. They haven't cared as much as they should have for nearly 20 years now.
