POST GAME [Round 18, 2026] - Broncos vs Sharks

The problem is who is going to want to coach here? It's a revolving door and the media bashes you every day. It would only be some unproven coach desperate for any job, and history would just repeat itself.
Sounds crazy but I would make Ivan and Nathan the richest father son duo in Australia and play to their egos about leading the biggest club in the game.

We are meant to be the richest, most elite club. No one should be able to say no to our offers

I think the value of Jensen has been shown since he's been out.
Big body, strong defender who takes the hard carries and strengthens the middle D.
The replacements - mostly Talty on extended minutes, Gos and Piki have not been close to that level or consistency bar the Dog/Tigers games.
Why didn't we seek dispensation to sign another NRL-level prop? Te Kura going AWOL as well didn't help. That's 2 of our front row bigs out almost all season.
There's green shoots with Semu, but we need to find someone, or we'll be busting Willison and Carrigan for 70-80 mins a game week in, week out, and they'll get injured...

Even if Jensen comes back, he's gonna have a short pre-season, but I think his specialist will be having a hard word with him, unfortunately for him and for Broncos.

Talk of Madge not being the right guy is crazy. Just like you said who else would do it? Anyone that takes this job will get absolutely bashed.

Madge is the man.

Except for the nrl salary cap auditor.

The fact that Hunt was re-signed just continues to show how cooked our recruitment is. He's ****ing useless now.

This entire club is taking the piss this year. 2025 must have been off script, not allowed to do that again.

The rumour of us not re-signing Mozer better be bullshit he’s the best number 9 at our club by a country mile. Madge and DD better not **** this up

Man its depressing 🤣 When you look at it all through the season

Reynolds 11 games (I was surprised it was that many)
Piakura 10 games
Jensen 7
Mariner 9
J Riki 13
Carrigan 10
Hass 9
Walsh 11

You just cant build anything around guys like that being out for such long periods, I honestly think if we have Hass, Carrigan and Walsh last night we win.

My biggest worry is in 2027 we just haven't strengthened the pack at all, what has J Hunt done to not get on the park last night over two blokes that have to go to work on Monday?

You also look at the guys we have extended, Paix, P Riki etc, these guys are terrible and we have them locked in for 2 more years.

I would also much rather Madge actually say in a press conference rather than doing the P.C "we are still in it " rubbish and actually tear strips off these guys, cause its at that point now.

We are already in danger of becoming the NSW Broncos.
No wonder we have lost our way we are losing our identity.

Not sure what good Madge blowing up at the playing group publicly does for anyone. He can probably be honest about the state of play but that's about it.

Im not so much saying blow up at them publicly but actually calling it for what it is, guys that are turning up weekly and just not putting in a shift, week on week the experience we have let's the team down, not the "we are still a chance" stuff. Facts are we are only weeks away from being on a worse run than the Dragons were, Madge weekly is getting let down by the so called leadership group.

I dont intend to rewatch the game to confirm, and its nothing new, but we gotta do something about our ruck for 27. Way way too often we end up with 1 marker from a 3 man tackle, with 1 or 2 left on the ground, or 1 on the ground and 1 called out not square. I dont think theres another team I see struggle with this part of the game as much as us.

On 2 man tackles we even end up with 0 markers at times. Like basic principles of defending just not happening.
Yep 100% agree. It's like watching boys play men.

The other area that needs massive attention is our carries coming out of our own end. We are ****ing abysmal. Watching every other team make an easy 50-60m a set then put an attacking kick on is depressing, while we are lucky to ruck it out to our 30m line with a slow play the ball before our kick. Every ****ing week.

I know injuries have hit bloody hard this year but it's really exposed our depth and shown that a few aren't up to NRL level. Add to that most of our core so called guns have had a career worst year. All together it's just been a powder keg for a **** of a season. It's such a shame because I feel it's eroded a lot of the good work that both Kevvie and Madge have done to get us back to the top.

I'm happy to stick with Madge for now and give him an opportunity to turn it around. I do like him and what he stands for with his coaching. Does worry me though that we were pretty ordinary for most of last year too with the same issues highlighted above but just caught lightening at the right time through basically one player. I feel the club is at a crossroads again and needs to make some tough decisions.

And this is what that "injury chart" going around does not measure. 3 depth players being out all season but who wouldn't have gotten a game is very different to 6 top 17 players being out half the season each, when considering impact on the team. Multiple smaller injuries have a greater impact on the squad due to changing players week to week.

We haven't run out the same 13 twice in a row all year. It feels like there's been what, 3 or 4 games where we haven't lost someone during the game to injury all year? And multiple games where we have lost multiple players, sometimes 3 in a single game.

I don't think there's really a way to put together the true injury impact stats:
- Salary cap value injured (in the same manner as the existing chart, but divide a player's salary by the 27 games in the season and multiply that by the # games they've been unavailable);
- Top 13 # games missed;
- Top 18 # games missed;
- Number of players lost during games (just total them up is probably sufficient, I've no doubt we're leading this);
- Somehow consider the positions of people out, ie. it feels like there's been multiple games where we've lost BOTH our halves in the one game, or multiple backs, etc. Losing a winger and a prop is a different proposition to losing both your halves for example.
- We already have # players used where I believe we're the highest by some margin, this also tends to indicate that the simple # games missed across the entire squad metric isn't telling the full story since we're only 4th on that chart.

For example with Peeks, JRiki, Carrigan and Haas all only playing essentially half the season so far, that's almost our entire forward pack. We're not having to replace one or 2 forwards from our depth, but 3 or 4, almost every game, so these blokes are playing much longer minutes in more critical roles than they are used to and they're just not up to that level. Then we wonder we have no go forward and our middle is loose as ****, well that's your reason. Between just Haas/Carrigan that's what, 20% of our cap? Add Walsh and you're looking at 30-35%.

Simply adding up 'games missed' throughout the squads is not a true indicator of a club's injury toll.

They've showed up the last few weeks but **** Staggs, Shiba and Hunt were putrid..way too many of these blokes are in career worst form..
