POST GAME Round 21 - Cowboys vs Broncos

Oh, and even though it went in our favour, surely the NRL have to go something about that obstruction rule. I was laughing my head off when i saw that one the Cows had disallowed. I'd be fuming if they took one off us for that when Macca could have made that tackle.

I tend to agree with Slater on that one, and I feel dirty just saying that. Cooper shouldn't have stopped in the line. As soon as he did he impeded McCullough's line of sight and path to the ball carrier. As a result McCullough had to deviate and over ran the play. It doesn't matter that McCullough should still have been able to make the tackle. If he'd been able to come at Clifford from the inside to begin with he may very well have made an effective tackle. Cooper denied him the opportunity.

In a nutshell he’s covering Boyd’s ass as fullback and 5/8th. And frankly, it’s bullshit. Milford has all the attributes to be up there with the best fullbacks but is being stifled by Darius Boyd.
Milford will not be our full back long-term. With a balanced spine his best position is five-eight. Let's hope Seibold can move on Macca and Boyd and find correct replacements in the next 2 seasons long-term

Exactly this! All the commentators and fans that blow up about obstructions like this because the player make contact but didn't complete the tackle forget that obstruction is about a player being denied an opportunity.

Yes Macca missed the tackle but Cooper stopping in the line like a fucking idiot Macca loses the opportunity to time is run or come out and meet Clifford to halt his momentum or the many other variables and that is why it is an obstruction.

I feel as long as seibold is coach milf will be 1. He’s already come out saying that’s his best position, he’s not going to backflip. It will be a detriment to our team and his coaching career.

My take aways -

  • This was probably the most consistently frustrating and poor quality game I've ever watched.
  • Turps saved us, but also dropped a ball over the line....I think he's done that a few times now. His kicking is also poor. It's not his fault he's in the halves though and he gives his all which is all one can ask. From an effort perspective, he leads the team. I just wish his partner in the halves showed half as much enthusiasm.
  • Shibba had the dropsies, but so did everyone else, however one led to a try so, he's going to cop it for that. His defence looked okay and an improvement on Coates. For mine, he is only in the team until we force Boyd to centre, please make it soon. Maybe Glenn if he's fit.
  • Boyd made a few good tackles but was mostly invisible, as per usual.
  • TPJ - Dumb
  • Lodge seemed to let Moose under his skin and it really impacted his performance. He needs to be smarter.
  • Haas - Pumped out the metres which we've come to expect but went missing when it mattered and was lazy chasing Clifford when he scored. Still our best forward with Fifi.
  • Fifi had a decent game, not too many players score the try he did. He's a beast and only 18.
  • Offa/Kennedy were pretty invisible
  • Flegler/Carrigan were disappointing with all of their errors and discipline (mainly Flegler)
  • Isaako was great for the try and made a few decisive runs. I don't think he made any errors, so a decent game from him.
  • Oates was AFK with Boyd. Very disappointing from the fan favourite.
  • Macca - Made a break, didn't know what to do next, panicked and passed too early. defence up the middle was ok.
  • Seggy - Showed enthusiasm, made some good runs, need to come on earlier.

This game summed up our season pretty well. Everything to play for and we can't get up for it. No organisation, no structure. All our practice this week should be back to basics. Setup in the opp 30 and plan on getting good kick in behind for a repeat set. The number of times we get the ball on tackle 4 or 5 and don't know what to do next is embarrassing. Dropped balls are on the players, poor game management and structure is on the coach. Either the plan is too complicated and the team don't understand it or there isn't one........more scary is that this is the plan.

IF we make the 8, we're just making up the numbers.

best decision he could have made ... Bennett should have made the decision 4 years ago the subborn fool

I can see what he is saying, but Macca had a clear shot on whichever cowboy it was. Common sense should prevail, but I don't think they use common sense when making rugby league rulings

I'm going to break ranks and state I really liked what I saw emerging from TPJ last night. The kid looks like he wants to own the paddock. Yeah, he made some bad choices, but he'll learn what he needs to reign in. I'm willing to give him time.

I can't remember a Bronco since Tallis so determined to draw in defenders and get the ball away. This is the most valuable skill a forward can have.

He's going to be our matchwinner for years to come. God speed to him.

I blame Locky too for that as well.

For once I agree with you, Milly freaks out the opposition all day, every day from fullback.

Yeah, playing Milford in his best position and where he is playing and enjoying his best footy (not that he was bad in the halves) is fucking awful, Boyd should go back to fullback ASAP.

Just because we have no fucking halves at the moment doesn't mean Milf shouldn't be at fullback.

I don't disagree, but last night when literally everything was going to shit, we needed someone to standup and force the game plan and just get some solid sets under out belt. We didn't need someone to give away stupid penalties and be frantic. This wasn't a once off.

The two 18yr old forwards showed more levelheadedness that he did.

I don't know, common sense to me is that an opposition player shouldn't be able to run into your line and just stop dead between a defender and the ball carrier without consequences. If Cooper just finishes his run we're not having this discussion. For mine there's no blame on the refereeing and all on Cooper in this instance.

He needs to be smarter about it, though. Just because you can dump a ball out the back doesn't mean you should. Half of the offloads he managed last night went to ground and they were lucky to regather and make it back to the point where he threw it. Once he starts picking his moments - and granted a lot of that is having teammates ready to receive the ball - he'll elevate our game doing it. Having said that, Turpin was great at anticipating the offload and moving it quickly when he was playing nine.

TPJ gets likened to JT2 for obvious reasons but I think he is far more Taupau. Taupau took years to mature but even so, he lifted players around him. Brisbane needs TPJ’s fire. This makes the kids feel someone in the side has their back when possibly intimidated on the field.

He gave away 1 penalty. The same number as Milford, Turps, Macca, Haas and Flegler. Tallis normally got pinged every game. It comes with the turf.

TPJ is getting smarter every game. I love what I'm seeing.

This time last year milf was single handedly winning games for us at 6. Last night, too me, it looked like he had no fucking clue what his role in the game was, and we had turpin just putting up rubbish kicks. Parker left the commentary box in disgust and Kevvie was calling for milf to move back into the halves to take control.

Taumalolo is a hell of a lot smarter of a player than TPJ. I think TPJ is a dumb footballer at times and sublime at others.

Milford isn't the problem we need another half, we are too short on stocks in the halves we need an old head there.

Green is out of contract after this season he would make a tonne of sense as a 7 for us.
