I get what Madge is trying to do with dropping Karapani - Madge would have surely told him that he knew that he'd taken that run before Kotoni's break, but the best wingers in the game (say To'o for example) would have absolutely been there to take the pass from Shiba and score.

Setting standards that he wants from players is a good thing.

Where it goes pear shaped is bringing in Cobbo. The dude is the antonym of setting standards ha
What I don’t get though is —> teams/players try to jump out of their positions to get on the front foot to try for a line break which thus provides opportunity to score. Ezra does that often. In this exact play too, Karapani ran cross field & Staggs had a line break and they spread the ball to our left. It doesn’t have to be the winger only to capitalize on it. Where’s our left back rower? The lack of someone pushing through far left is not acceptable.

Do people really think Madge hasn't been keeping a close eye on Cobbo? That he hasn't been watching to see if he is showing the standards that Madge wants?

Everything I've been hearing has shown that Cobbo is putting in the work and it paid off on the weekend when he had a really good game. If he's putting in the work, he deserves a call up. When he is, he's one of the best wingers in the comp and a genuine gamebreaker.

Regarding the wingers, maybe it is just giving our 2 now backup wingers a chance, so Madge can see the lay of the land before our last few games, including 2 hugely important games vs Melbourne. What better time to do it, then for the game after both our wingers were poor (Karapani) and extremely poor (Arthars).

Guess we'll see, but I can't see Karapani being out of the team too long.

Not at all, but outside of last week where 1910 mentioned Cobbo had a crack, hasn't he been pretty poor?

Anyway, will see how he goes. I hope he has a screamer ofc.

Cobbo was as enthusiastic and involved last night in a game as I have seen him for a long while.

Took hit ups, made line breaks, the try was nothing, he even kicked, dropped three balls but the running game was on.

With all due respect, it's best for you to sit out of form or motivation evaluations . LOL .

Well , he did the Cobbo that one time .
Collected the ball in broken play and tried the hero move of tippy toeing the sideline and got pushed out .
He had options and he took the low percentage one .

No one is mentioning that though ?
In fairness it was a penalty at the time due lomax coping apparently a head high tackle so doesn't really count

I think he was out for a couple of weeks prior to the game on the weekend. But it's not just what he's doing on the field, it's also off the field. If he's turning up to training on time, putting in the effort and showing a good attitude, he should be in the team.

I think Madge would have a pretty good idea on Cobbo. It could also be what Brocko said, he could just be giving Cobbo and Mariner a chance and figuring out who's his best wing options going forward.

On Karapani though, I don't think he was dropped just on the Eels game alone. He was also exposed against the Titans.

I hope Cobbo is at least a bit faster than the last time he played on the wing (or even at fullback).

Dropping the Karp and Arthars is a Clayton’s ‘on notice’ move in my opinion. If he seriously wanted to send a message he’d drop Reyno and Carrigan. They were both phoning it in during that eels game. Besides the rest might do them good.

Totally agree.

Except for the bit where we don't have anyone better to replace them. Hunt hasn't exactly pushed his case for 7.

Well that's the case at least most of the time. That is, the person we are dropping is considered the best for that position but they're being dropped to warn them that their spot is not a given.

If the person replacing them was better they'd be in the team in the first place.

That's a good theory, but if it were a rule we'd have nothing to talk about.

Reynolds and Carrigan are numbers 1 & 2 of the so-called leadership group. Our biggest problem - IMHO - is on field leadership, namely Reynolds not taking charge. I can't get a handle whether Carrigan is good leadership or just an awful lot of background noise. I can't tell whether they're on different pages.

It's clear by the muddled fifth tackle options, and Reece being first receiver way too often, we don't have a man with a plan stamping his authority. I don't think that's cause for dropping Adam. Retiring maybe. But that doesn't appear to be happening.
