On a different note, what has happened to Dominic Young? He's gone from being arguably the best winger in the world to...being a dude in a jersey who you would be surprised actually played in a ridiculously short time.

I feel like he's had defensive deficiencies his whole career... and goes through patches where he just cannot catch anything.

But he's tall, fast and strong... and I think he takes a lot of yardage hitups... those are the exact physical traits that rorters have looked for in outside backs for a long time now... emphasis being on tall

Tupou, Manu, Latrell, Suaalii, Marky Mark, etc. even Billy Smith is tall.

So from that standpoint Young was a perfect fit for them and was likely being groomed as the Tupou replacement.

Then when they got him into the building, Robbo realised he's dumb as a doorknob and it didn't matter how many physical traits he had he just couldn't coach that level of dumb out of him.

To add to this, he looks strong but he's not. Consistently gets bent back in tackles because of his height and centre of gravity. Doesn't help that he runs so erect and often tries to avoid contact. He has great top speed but no acceleration, so when he makes bad defensive reads he's not recovering

It's not too dissimilar to early career Coates... Bellamy has turned him into the premier winger of the comp, but early on he had dick fingers, wasn't great in defence and constantly got folded in yardage.

Can see why a coach would take a chance on Young... frustrating thing is rorters poached him on overs after a great season... only for him to fail almost immediately... but yet they can offload him straight away and there are no repercussions for their massive **** up.

They aren't holding onto that lengthy contract for years moving forward... it's just gone.

So many other teams just have to wear those shit contracts for ages, but an Uncle Nick **** up is resolved instantly without hurting their cap

Any sort of retaliation from the club, players, etc. and he'd just bitch and play the victim.

Back in the day the Courier Mail used to be pro-Qld clubs and if they were getting attacked from Sydney they'd call them out... but are there even any Qld writers left in the Qld newspaper?

They're likely run from Sydney (editors, etc.) and just fall into line otherwise they're looking for a new job.
