I'm really getting sick of people putting down Reece's performance against Cowboys. Walsh was a massive reason we won with his try assist, 40/20 and his defence early. Take the errors with his triumphant if we keep getting the wins.

Billy's dummy half play for the Payne Haas try was top class.

H

He also deserves understanding.
He is a kid, in a patch of poor form while learning to master his craft.

Criticism is useless unless its constructive.
He’s played 78 games of NRL. He’s not 19. He’s going into his 3rd season as the starting fullback of our team. He’s just signed a massive contract. He needs to do better. Our criticism is irrelevant it’s what he’s hearing from our coaches that is important

No I understand what you are suggesting but you A. Have to realise that Walsh currently is struggling for confidence and form on the edge where his skillset is entirely suited to and B. He can’t be everywhere at once.

He is an extra half. Walsh doesn’t make post contact metres and doesn’t do well off being flat-footed, if there isn’t space he is being wasted in that portion of the field. You might get the opportunity you are looking for from Walsh a handful of times a season and the rest of the time him and his skillset is completely wasted position himself there. Just in the same way you don’t want your half to run it on the 4th, you don’t want the bloke who’s presence on the edge is nightmare fuel for opposition even in his poor form roaming through the middle for the majority of the set. He has to be part of the communication loop on the edges and everything. I think it is just too much to add another dimension to his game where he is least likely to be effective. I definitely don’t disagree entirely with your thought process but at the same time it detracts from other areas of his game. He can’t be everywhere and he can’t be roaming the middle long enough to be effective or even necessarily reap the rewards of it. He spends about as much time as he theoretically could and should be.

Someone like a Tedesco can roam the middle for offloads and pick up significant metres and post contact metres regardless of the space. Walsh can’t do that.

In a set Walsh can have a kick return, take a run one out from the ruck, be at first receiver, run it on a short side play, play both sides of the ball, be out the back of shape and a kicker. That requires a lot of movement and communication. You can’t be everywhere at once and you can’t be heavily involved in playmaking as well as being an edge threat and spend all your time just roaming middles for there predominantly ineffective just for the sake of it offloads.
Darren would disagree. He was great at support play in the middle, kicking and playmaking. It's about choosing the moment.

Granted when you're coming out of your own half hanging around the middle is pointless. But once you are over your own 40, tackl 1, 2 and potentially 3 should be live for support.

I would also like to see the Broncos getting him to look like he is going wide in shape to only cut back under the half through the middle. Darren ran that play as a fullback and also used it for Slater.

Variation is what Walsh needs to open his game up. But it could be that Madge is not wanting any of that until the mistakes are st least halved.

OK how about this

When you try that sweep move all teams have trained for and the defence closes the gap , don`t try the impossible pass . Hold onto the ball .

When you are about to be tackled , hold on to the ball .

When you jump for a bomb and catch it , hold onto the ball .

That should be enough to work on ?

I just cant think of another player who has been under such scrutiny at such a young age.

Well , self inflicted ?

Training with no shirt , warm ups before games no shirt . Brings his preschooler out on the field after games , swan dives to score tries . Back flips after scoring . Sun glasses at night , caught late at night with cocaine hydrochloride in his pocket .

He could have a lower profile and less scrutiny . Personal choice I would say .

Yes, we did a great job of containing Dearden. He barely troubled us.

His weapon is his show and go .
He tried it a cpl of times they were ready for it .

That show and go most often happens on the left side . What side did he play for the Broncos ?
Also any one recall his 5 th tackle kick for metres ? That`s another reason why he`s not a #7

Did 2 good things .
Several bad things . Hoping his form changes or that`s a LOT of money parked in Q Cup . And more money will be needed to pay Selwyn full back money .

How many more Barry Crockers before he gets dropped ?

For sure. Constructive.

Nah, he is the face of the game and a click generator. He could be quiet as a church mouse and the media would still farm him for engagement.
He has talent, looks, and plays for the Broncos.
