I would say it's because he doesn't have to chase the kick and be part of the defensive line.
Teams do different things on kick off... Blayke Brailey does the kick offs for Sharks... presumably because he's just running down and forming the middle defence, whereas Trindall or Hynes would be needing to get across to their edge
I think Paps for storm (similar reason to Reece), etc.

Not wrong. They want Reece to be Reece but that is not it. A wildly inconsistent fullback who is poor defensively is not where it is at.
