Fox's coverage is just awful. Do they get paid by the minute and can't exceed a certain amount of time or something?

The panel conversing about the game, in comes Yvonne to talk about some other stupid sport, either golf or boxing. Let the conversation play out goodness me.
It's excruciating, though I think anyone wondering why Kevvie was sacked might have a better understanding of his lack of gravitas now. He wipes the floor when it comes to credentials, but the other hosts are disinterested in his opinions, talk over the top of him and are more articulate at expressing what might very well be inferior takes.

I miss Fatty on 9.

A pretty conservative performance that saw us do enough to win against a really poor team.

A good performance to build upon - though a stronger opponent would’ve worried us.

It’s a bit concerning how much we struggle to make metres in the opening 20 minutes but at this stage it must almost be tactical
I would like to see us spend more time camped on the opposition try line, getting repeat sets until we score. We haven't really improved on last year in that regard.

And short dropouts, ****. Are we the worst both sides of the ball on those or what?

We would have to have the worst percentage on both sides of the ball.

We might be getting a bit closer though.

Last night the blockers were doing a great job protecting Reece on some of those kick defusals.

I think Cobbo has been ok with some of the short drop outs, but we need to have that back up where you are taking it facing backwards (so it spills back to our players) or just hitting it backwards.

Also need to get around the back of the kicking team, Mitch Kenny style, to clean up if they try to hit it back.

I think it happened in round 1 where they hit the ball back and Paix was in the vicinity, but he wasn't really committing to it and getting right back where Teddy was... I think it will be another component of short dropouts where the hooker moving to that position puts way more pressure on the kicking team.

Riki pinged for 2 matches with an early guilty plea - those wanting him fired to the sun can enjoy the next two weeks
Disappointing to see him miss games, but we will get to see where Piakura is at.

This is his opportunity to show that he should stay in the starting side.

Also a chance for Hunt to come into the team I'm guessing... he'll need to be ready, because Riki was our 80min edge player... I'm assuming Gos will be getting 80 for the next couple weeks, but Piakura is yet to show that he can play that many minutes

I think the Riki hate comes from how he doesn’t seem to make many post contact metres. He is going for a fast play the ball but always gets wrapped up by 4 defenders and we rarely get ruck penalties. If he can find a way to improve his play the ball speed from there then I am sure people will love him but maybe sometimes he needs to just go for post contact metres or try to hit the ground and find his front to change it up. But yeah it was one of his better games last night!

Our defence is looking very much like how we started 2023. We have been very lucky with injury so far. This time last year we were without Haas, reynolds, Mariner, riki, piakura with Arthars, Walters, sailor, madden joining the list shortly after this time. I honestly believe that we would have lost last night without Reyno and Haas. We are very reliant on those players. Let's hope we stay injury free like we did in 2023.

I think Walters should be the 14 fulltime. I'd like to see him with some more minutes, he tore them apart at times last night, it was a very crafty display. I think paix is playing too conservative because he knows he's playing big minutes and needs to conserve his energy. His biggest strengths were his danger close to the line (which he demonstrated again last night how good he is at that) and his ability to capitalise of quick ptb with his running game.

Thought riki was great last night which was awesome to see. Don't see why there is criticism around him.

Walsh was also good with a more conservative performance.

Lol at Gilbert getting a Grade 2, but no penalty during the game
I'm okay with that. Refs will always miss things, but the bunker shouldn't. If Riki's tackle was so bad he probably should've gone to the bin.

Speaking of refs missing things, we got away with a spear tackle at one point. I think it might've been Paix, I can't remember. No one said anything. That surprised me.

I'm with you. The refs have been atrocious for us to start this season. If we have won a penalty/six again count in any of the 4 games so far, I will be staggered because it sure as hell hasn't felt that way.
The most egregious was last week against the Cows when we even had to challenge whether the ball went 10m from a drop-out or not. The whole crowd saw it didn’t. The commentators weren’t sure, but the ref was. Definitely went 10 in his idiotic mind.

Until we challenged and everyone saw, plain as frickin day, it didn’t go the ten…

Disgraceful on-sided reff’ing.

Let's do it properly:

1. Walsh - I felt it was the most complete game we've seen from him. He put the flashy stuff away mostly played tough. He was rock solid at the back and didn't push the play. Even the pass that went over the side line, you'd expect the winger to be there. This needs to become his base performance - 8
2. Cobbo - He worked his butt off in the wet. He could have put more pressure on some of the attacking kicks but he took so many tough carries and I love that he almost got Averillo right at the death. It came at the death, the game was basically won and he had to come from the other side of the field. He's really contributing and I am expecting him to blow a game apart some time soon - 8
3. Staggs - So nice to have him back. He was really solid in defense on a fantastic centre in Herbie and had so much energy in attack. For a first game of the season, he did amazingly well. Our competition for the centre spots is amazing - 8
4. Shibasaki - He is amazing and I never thought I'd say that. It was a big call to go with Gehamat over Deine and he more than justified it. He is legit one of the best centres in the comp early season. If he can maintain this form, he is going to be in discussions for origin. His second coming is unbelievable - 9
5. Arthars - He was really hot and cold and just refused to go for contested bombs. He has had far better games though, so you can forgive it on the odd occasion he has a poorish game. Even so, he still took some good runs amongst the not so good one - 6
6. Hunt - That early kick was a shocker, as was the kick away after the drop / knock down from Xman. That said, he set up a couple of tries and is always there to clean up. I also noticed a couple of time late in defense, he was kind of defending like a pseudo fullback, it was a very rugby union way of setting up defense and that was interesting. He is blowing hot and cold early season but I love his competitiveness - 6
7. Reynolds - He controlled that game beautifully. If he want to go another year, we need to make it happen somehow. He is also so good at defending for a little dude, deceptively strong. He was exactly what we needed in those conditions, though he could improve that goal kicking from the side lines - 9
8. Carrigan - I noticed he had very low metres at the end of his first stint - 39 but finished with a hundred more, so his second stint was much more impactful and defensively the same, how good was that hit on Gilbert. He was good to very good as he always is - 8
9. Paix - How good was that try! I saw that opening up as I am sure most of us did and I was so glad he took it. I don't know what the talk was about his defense, he is really strong at that. It wasn't really the game to be running a lot but he still needs to work on that. His defense is strong, so he needs to work now on his run selection - 7
10. Haas - What a freak. Even in conditions like that, he still terrrorised the opposition. He is just the complete player and give a 9 out of 10 or 10 out of 10 game every single week. He is unreal and is just everywhere on the field, worth every cent we are paying him - 10
11. Gosiewski - He is a good money ball signing and great in a game like that. He is also really good at running a second rower's line but he is very limited. He does allow Piakura to come on fresh and that is a nice weapon to have off the bench. Gosiewski did nice work on that first try - 6
12. Riki - He was great and it shocks me that posters can't see it last night. There were signs last week he is starting to get his running game working and went up levels last night. He was great both sides of the ball, hope he does not get suspended - 9
13. Hetherington - His leg looked pretty busted at the end of the game. His first stint was pretty good defensively, put some starch back into his tackles which was good. Not sure he is doing enough to warrant keeping the starting 13 jersey but he might be out next week anyway - 5

14. Walters - Billy was good too, no I mean he was. He offers a lot because he is different to Paix. He plays smart and he has been choosing good times to run and pulled out a great shot - 8
15. Jensen - He has really stepped up the last two weeks. He played a much longer stint than I think he thought he would and he was safe both sides of the ball. He went many accolades but more than did his job - 7
16. Willison - He played far safer than he has in the first few rounds which showed smarts for the conditions. He's got a lot going for him and he looked like he still had energy when most other forwards were tiring. Him and Haas as a front row in a year or two is going to be a treat to watch - 7
17. Piakura - What a shot! Yeah he got caught out on their last try but he wasn't alone there. He is providing a lot of punch off the bench, it is really working for the side. I really feel like he is learning his craft well. He, at least to me, is starting to look more consistent - 7

It was Hunt from memory, caused them to drop the ball too, which I thought might have been acted on, but we got away with that.

We also got away with Cobbo putting his foot into touch, so over all I guess we both got shafted.
