PRE-GAME [Round 5, 2025] Broncos vs Tigers

It'd a weird one, because there seems to be a changing of the guard. Now would be the best time to play Penrith and Melbourne. Might even prefer them over the Tigers right now.
Sure.

I remember most seasons past everyone on here has been complaining about how fucked our draw is/was.... couldnt have said that 5 weeks ago though.... been blessed so far, 3/4 against plodders.... with the tiggers to follow.

Kobe is dead easy to replace: Willison to prop, Carrigan to lock, Te Kura/Taupau to bench.
Riki is more tricky: Piakura to start, and then scratch around the back of the cupboard. Hunt, probably.

I'm less enthused that Mariner is stuck in the wilderness.
Mariner will be fine. He’s on a long term deal. Some time in cup will only make him better in the long run.

Now Mozer is all but officially locked up for 2 years, I’m not sure we see him much outside injury, origin or suspension too.

Madge has 3 places in the team to squeeze in Hunt, Mam, Paix, Walters, Mozer - I am not sure he gets in

We've definitely been given a good start to the year... I think dogs in round 8 and then panthers at magic round are the big big tests coming up.

Our back end to the year isn't great getting storm twice in the last month, but they will be a good chance of resting in the last round.

Teams we have twice

1-3. Cows, Titans, Dolphins (standard) - Titans actually looking the toughest of them at this stage... but these teams have so little going for them that playing the broncos is their GF every year

4. Storm (standard for some fucking reason.. can these ***** create some rivalries with other teams already... fucking cheating grub *****)

5. Rorters (NRL dropped the ball here... they forgot that this is a down year for rorters)

6. Dogs (have replaced parra as a big Sydney club that we have no history with, but they're on the up so need to have them playing broncos)

7. Souths (Uncle Wayne bullshit)

8. Wahs (looks like another slip up by NRL... although the second game is during origin, so they probably just forgot they also booked us against them early in the year)

So we miss getting panthers twice, which is great, and we've got them at magic round, so not even having to go to Sydney.

Other teams we play once:
- Sharks (during origin when they have no reps... stock standard BS of the last few years)
- Knights (away for their old boys day... and on a Sunday afternoon.. basically the worst time you could get knights even if they're playing like shit)
- Parra (a shit bottom 4 team... so we only get them once because they don't rate... even though NRL have been putting us against them twice a year for ages because of the 2019 finals game... but they turn to shit and get replaced by the dogs... because reasons)
- Canberra (got a good time slot to get them, but Ricky turned it into a grand final and ambushed us)
- Tigers (can't be giving the broncos the 3-peat spooners twice... don't think we've played them twice in a year for about 9yrs or something stupid)
- Dargons (another team expected to be shit so can't be giving the broncos two games against them)

Sure.

Plus our byes late in the season. Can't complain.

Defend like last night and have another high completion rate, we'll be fine.

Trouble is can we complete like we did last night two weeks in a row? Give the Tigers chances this year and they can put on points. They aren't the pushovers they used to be, they have a higher level of resilience this year and have quite a few players that can produce points.

Our defence around the ruck needs to be spot on with Api playing at dummy half.

The confidence they would have gained from their wins makes them a danger.

They have won 3 of their past 4 at Suncorp. They love playing at Suncorp and ambushing us, silencing the crowd. Make no mistake they can do that again.

I know "every game is hard" in the nrl but teams are really, really coming to get us. Particularly in the first 20 mins. They seen what Canberra did and see that as a blueprint. Problem for them all is, Canberra kept it up for 80 mins and we were also ambushed so if they don't score early points it's almost a positive for us.

We seemed to have learnt a lot from that Canberra game. Our defence has certainly gone up a gear, our for and against certainly doesn't factor in the type of tries teams have go against us. If we don't want them to score, it takes a hell of a lot of pressure and ball for the opposition to get a try.

They know we're one of the teams to beat and anyone with a clue in Rugby League could tell you that. You got Carrigan and Haas with Reynolds and Hunt off the back of that. Then Reece Walsh out the back feeding it to the likes of Kotoni Staggs and Selwyn Cobbo.

Canberra the only team who have been able to do it for long enough to beat us. Carrigan and Haas play big minutes, if there's a reprieve it's not for very long.
