Round 7 Discussion

I watched the Thurston interview after the game. It sounds to me like he was implying that the refs are against the Cowboys..

Suck it up buttercup. Every team cops bad calls. It was definitely a bad call, but the great teams overcome the bad decisions..

Some teams cop worse calls than others. And very few teams are great, so to say great teams overcome them is a total cop out. We aren't talking about a missed forward pass (like Brett Stewart's in the lead up to the try that led to six again). This is a decision that went to video review and was ruled on in a way that totally contradicts previous interpretation. It's not like something that was obvious on review that was missed live -- it actually went upstairs. There's simply no excuse for that.

And frankly I don't blame Thurston for feeling that way. I doubt the referees are deliberating rubbing out the Cowboys but after tonight's call and the try off 7 tackles last year I certainly don't begrudge him for harboring those resentments.

The 'hand of Foran' from 2012 is another example.

Cowboys have enough issues as it is to contend with terrible refereeing like that.

Well, I missed the first half of Dogs vs Rabbitohs, but the two and a half games I watched were great.

Good back and forth action with the Dogs stealing it with a field goal.

Cowboys can feel a little miffed about the obstruction call, but Manly too composed and clinical when it counted. Still hate the bastards, but can respect how they are always up to the challenge.

And of course, a righteous stomping of Newcastle by the boys.

I'm 1/3 but could not care less. Great day of quality footy!

LOL! Nice haircut Badger.

We need to start a ladder that accounts for refs robbing teams. So far we need to:

+2 points:
Cowboys
Dragons

-2 points:
Storm
Manly

The Cowboys do seem to get robbed more frequently than others. Didn't they get knocked out of 2 finals series in a row thanks to terrible calls?

Yep.

Foran blatantly knocking it forward it 2012 and seven tackles for the Sharks last year.

They have plenty to feel aggrieved about, but at the end of the day, they've got to close the tight games out. Everyone gets dudded by pretty poor calls from time to time.

How were the Cowboys robbed? It was 20-all and they took the lead! They couldn't close the game out and that's their fault. The Cowboys lost the game themselves.

Dragons and Storm were robbed because those bad calls happened in the final seconds of the game.

Cowboys shouldn't have to contend with bad calls, but they still had every chance to win that game. They couldn't because they're mediocre..

JT trips Gallen in the Sharks final and it leads to a try, no one says shit about that. Cowboys took the lead in that game, thanks to an illegal tactic by Thurston, and they had their chance to close the game out.

They defended like school girls and Sharks came back. Thurston also missed an easy kick by his standards and that would have taken the game to golden point.

I don't think Cowboys should complain about that game too much..

This is crap. The fact they have to contend with these ridiculous calls is enough for a complaint. And if tries are scored from them, how do you suppose they contend with an obstruction? They're illegal because they give the attacking team an unfair advantage. The difference between a try (4-6 points) and a penalty that will get you almost halfway down the field is huge. They in absolutely no way had every chance to win, their chance to win was taken away when the video ref who watches the "try" numerous times from every angle wrongly awarded a try.

Comparing the JT trip, which went pretty much unnoticed by everyone and is at most contentious, with an absolutely clear cut obstruction seen repeatedly in the video replays, is intellectually dishonest.

I do believe good teams should be able to beat bad reffing, like the Broncos did last night, but copping a score equalising try like that in the last 10 minutes is just bullshit, even if they ended up giving it away... No team should have to contend with such calls.

Yeah I'm 2 bob each way on this one. Staggering how the vid ref got that wrong, just should not happen, having said that they led and had possession but dropped it cold ( Tamou ) around half way which gave Manly a chance to score late.

Also for some reason they gave Feldt the kicking duties for the first 2 kicks and he missed both 1 from nearly on front, that 4 points could have been handy. If they had been up 24 - 10 with 15 to go, psychologically that's a big difference for both sides.

I thought giving Feldt the kicking duties was ridiculous...

Even if JT is down on form by his standards, he's still good.

15 minutes in and still no score between Dragons and Warriors.

Warriors are not going that well, too much dropped ball and bad 5th tackle options.

I'm still tipping them, though. Replacement coaches statistically do better the second week.

Jesus christ, that was terrible by the Warriors.

Dugan constantly mistiming his offloads and they're constantly finding the ground..

Dragons got a penalty and they're taking the 2.

Penalty goal successful.

2-0

22 minutes in.
