CRICKET Sam Konstas

I’m a big supporter of McSweeney but he just isn’t an opener. You have a really good talent through the middle order that you will ruin going down that path.

I’m still very big on the Travis Head to opener idea. He averages more at opener in all 3 formats. Great batsman at 5 as well don’t get me wrong but the talent is just not there at opener to warrant staunchly picking him there. He is also a bit of a liability when he bats at 5 overseas.

There you go Sproj .
You didn`t even have him on your list of prospects ?

Didn't I? Well if not, an oversight from me. Basically, Weatherald, Jewell, Kellaway and McSweeney are all much of a muchness in terms of averages as openers, McSweeney more as a 3 or 4 to be honest. Kellaway has the age on his side factor though of course.

The other thing I was really pleased to see is Sangha backed up an excellent season last year with another ton yesterday. He's really in lights for a middle order spot if he continues to back it up. He's always had the potential but never delivered on it, good signs.

One, if not most, if not everyone but you would argue that a 22 year old that has 2 fc hundreds and averages 32 would have age as a factor against him.

Weatherald has 12 and averaged 37. Could not care less if he is 30. Campbell is as qualified and far less talented to be in this side than Konstas. Why change?

As for Sangha he looks good but a hundred in this game means nothing.

It’s halfway through day 4 and the game score is 9 - 950. Let’s not pretend like this is the sort of cricket you are picking blokes on. McSweeney with 12 on this deck hopefully puts this opening experiment to bed.

Yes Sangha looks classy more recently .
I thought he was a prospect a few years back ,then he lost form .
