Just speculating. He was obviously talented and in there backyard - he went to Kirwan which is like Cowobys under 18's, so they obviously had their reasons.
Is it possible we signed Thaiday WITHOUT knowing about his waywardness ?? Cyril was probably able to run the rule over him before signing him you'd think or if he was too ill or old then someone must of had a look and think. Given Brisbanes thoroughness in most areas I'd be surprised if Thaiday was signed on a nod and wink before knowing at least something about him.If he was that bad a lad then that would be the first thing any enquirer would learn. Generally the Broncs keep a watchful eye out and I'd say someone from the Broncs must have seen him perform somewhere and thought he'd be good value.
Denying signing a kid is fair enough IMO - I mean there must be heaps of kids clubs DONT sign and they don't become superstars and they made the right call. It's only one a particular player becomes massively famous and then suddenly the club who initially denied the kid is blamed... nothing much doing there IMO.
However on the other hand the WB decision was a shocker!
