Shane Webcke orders tell-all rugby league book pulped

Well I can't think why else he'd quit now? The press had all but died, other than the odd "I'm unhappy" Player tells friend headline. He'd said he was going to deal with the problem with the players face to face...I just don't get it.

So yes, it's assumption/speculation on my part, but unless Webcke's a giant chicken who didn't want to face up to the guys (which I really don't think is true) then it's the most likely explanation in my opinion.

That is fair enough, like i said it is most likely true.

I just can't help but feel there is a little more to it. I just don't think Webcke would pack his bags and leave like that because one or two players are hostile towards him.

Maybe the entire playing group feels somewhat betrayed??

The only players with any pull in the team likely to be hostile would be Hunt and maybe Hodgo if K was stirring him.I don't see Sammy causing trouble although i didn't envisage him being involved in the toilet episode.

My theories are :

1) Hunt goes crying to Cullen or Henjak who are so spineless they back Hunt in the hope he will sign a new contract.

2) Cullen takes offence to Webcke, like Wayne did, pointing out that he is a shitty leader.

Regardless I'd be more than happy to see the back of Hunt and Cullen.

Anyone know why Dave Taylor wanted to punch on with Webcke in the off season.

I read it somewhere either the paper or league magazine.

Haven't heard that 1 Kaz. Grain of salt for now .

Webcke is on channel 7 news tonight. (QLD)

The only one I read who was annoyed about the book was Sammy. I read that when the story broke about the book being published. He said he had worked hard to put that all behind him and now it was all coming out again.

Why hasn't Shane spoken to the boys before this? According to what has come out so far he didn't even get to speak to them today but took it upon himself to just up and quit. Very odd.

Why is everyone blaming K but forgetting the others? Hunt is believed to have said he is pissed off with the whole Brisbane scene and living in a goldfish bowl and wants to get out. Can't say by the way he is judged by so many that I blame him even though I to of course am against what he did last year.

I feel there is a lot more to this than we will be told publicly

Found the artical

Was in the Rugby League Week.(The Mole)

Webcke’s Enemies Grow

It seems Darius Boyd, Sam Thaiday & Karmichael Hunt aren’t the only Broncos dirty with former team mate turned controversial author Shane Webcke. My mail is that young bull Dave Taylor – a future star who won’t let reputations get in the way when he’s fired up – wanted to take Webcke outside after a ‘disagreement ‘ during the off season.

I'd guess people are blaming Hunt because everyone has heard what a pretentious, jumped up little twat he is.

I was annoyed (still am) with all 3 of the guys, however Thaiday has done what you should do after this stuff worked bloody hard, signed a new contract and acted like a leader and I am not sure Hunt has done any of those 3 things.

As for Webcke my respect for the man has plummeted with this by the way it has been reported, I hope everything is blown out of proportion somewhat because I don't like the thought of Shane not even really trying to explain his actions to all the players involved.

Webcke is obviously a human who is very concerned about what people think.
He has taken a holier than thou approach to the way he judges people, and in general, that is the way the public ( and Wayne ) has seen and constructed his personality.
His book reflects the thoughts of a down to and salt of the earth type who likes to keep it real.
However, he is a footballer who is coming to terms with being out of the spotlight.
That can be tough... and confusing.
He has written his book, been advised, thought, reflected and decided that he is a bit scared about what people will think and how he will be perceived,
He is obviously screwed up at the moment.
Maybe Shane doesn't know himself as well as he thought post footy.
Let's face it, footy defined him and it ws reinforced week after week on the paddock.

I wonder what Wayne thinks or advises?

Shane must not have thought of what the players would think of what he wrote.

As long as his point of view on the matter was printed etc.

All it has done is drag the Broncos name back into the headlines again & it's for all the wrong reasons.

Very disappointed he's resigned. One of the best forwards we've had so he could've taught our current crop a few things.

I agree mate although KHUNT's situation it seems as though he has taken most of the heat for the indiscretion and this is why he hates the world at the moment. I know it is his own fault but it is not a situation that would be fun hence the hate that is surrounding him.

My thoughts;

Firstly; how far away do those scenes post GF 06, when Hodgo deliberately sort out Webcke to hug him, seem?

Secondly; Taylor's "blow up" toward Webcke could be from as little as Webcke giving him curry for not putting in at training....or it could be more, that article isn't worth a thing.

Thirdly; I'm unsure whether anyone should be connecting the dots towards Hunt and Thaiday, in regard to this whole saga. At the every least, I suggest it's premature to attribute their actions to his resignation. It is already fairly public knowledge that Hunt wasn't going to make a decision until Lockyer was sorted. Lockyer is meant to be sorted by the week after Easter at the latest. If Hunt does resign, we can't look too much into that either.

Fourthly; Gee Gee was admin, his departure has nothing to do with the team training or on field.

Finally; I'm unsure of the whole saga. I'm can't believe that Webcke is stupid enough to not have realised what his thoughts would have sounded like (considering it was a speculated 5-6 months since he wrote them), he had a long time to consider what he wrote before it finally became public.

I also am finding it hard to believe that Webcke would be a bloke unable to handle confronting people he has offended (although he might simply be a 'pleaser', a guy unable to handle people not liking him eusa_think ).

I am scared for the future of my club if any player mentioned in the book, did indeed have a whinge and held the club "to ransom" for their signature on contract. What does this say about our CEO and co. if players are dictating terms to things well off the field? However, remember that close sources have said even though Thaiday re-signed, he was very close to leaving for undisclosed reasons... eusa_think

I also struggle with the thought that the only three guys still at the club from Webcke's last season (Lockyer, Hodges, Parker and of course Hunt & Thaiday) would allow a "shoulder out" approach to Webcke. And if so, they would have had to been united. Nobody can convince me that for any united player action to happen at Red Hill, Darren Lockyer must be in agreement with it.

All said and done, the hardest thing for me as a fan, is our relatively young pack, has been playing great. Legend or not, what a crap time to lose the forwards coach.

Henjak should have shown some authority and stamped out any discontent, only he has no authority and everyone knows he is Cullens puppet.

Henjak, Cullen and Hunt can **** off.Wayne to coach , Webcke to CEO.

Peace.
