  • No, it's our home ground. They should play at their own stadium

I don't care that the broncos share the stadium. I just think it's an absolute joke this dolphins team trying to be a North Brisbane team (I know technically they are but you know what I mean). They will get bigger crowds at suncorp but they will lack idendity long term.
I found it funny the "research" the nrl bragged about with Redcliffe and sunshine coast fans travelling to suncorp lol. That is not reality long term, that's absolute bs.
They should be saving Lang Park for the biggest 4 games (us, cowboys, titans, storm or premiers instead of cowboys/titans) and play 6 in Redcliffe with 2 in sunshine coast.

I think Redcliffe would benefit more from playing at Dolphin Oval and the sunshine coast tbh.

I do think its not that big an issue mainly because we dont have our own stadium. We basically lease it from the governement.

The ground is synonymous with QLD Origin and the Broncos, that association formerly being more profound. But that won't change. I think the important thing is for the Broncos to have a winning record at Suncorp more than anything.

It is synonymous with QLD i'd say more than the Broncos tbh, but we do have an attatchment to it, but then again there are a lot of teams that do these days as well. Like i said earlier, from my perspective, if it was a stadium we owned and it was ours alone i'd probably be filthy about it. When you get so many different teams and sports using the place these days i find it hard to be bothered about it.

So synonymous we abandoned it and went to ANZ Stadium/QEII

It had to be done because Lang Park was being redeveloped and was not available for a period. Plus if memory serves me correctly, there was a bit of an ongoing issue with a sponsor conflict of Powers Brewing and XXXX.

The redevelopment had nothing to do with it; they were 10 years apart.

Lang Park Trust wouldn’t let the Broncos get any value for sponsors. Lang Park was sponsored by xxxx and Broncos by Powers. Power’s couldn’t even be on the Broncos’ jumper at one stage and Power’s couldn’t be served.

we move to QEII years before the redevelopment

I just hope where they play is left to the club. They should know what’s good for them. Hope the nrl/state govt don’t interfere.

Though it would probably never happen due to they would be loosing alot of money on ticket sales a Broncos v Dolphins derby game at Dolphin Oval would be cool.
When Brisbane play at Suncorp and are the 'away' team it still feels like their the home team to me. Unless the dolphins are fully going to transform the stadium for their games with the seat colours and various other things associated with the broncos at the stadium i think it will always feel like the broncos home to me.

Yep... maybe in the first year fans will travel to see Dolphins vs Tigers, but that could stop even by year 2.

They have an opportunity to use Suncorp for the big games and Redcliffe for most of the others, with the reserves playing a game before the NRL

I always thought that the premise for Brisbane 2 was as a 2nd Brisbane team playing out of Suncorp and drawing supporters from the whole region. This was the business model that was being pushed for years.. Sure play a few games at Reddy and Sunny coast but majority at Suncorp and build a fan base that includes all parts of the city. Call them Moreton Bay but they should be scouting and get their merch out to Logan, Ipswich as well if they want to be competitive long term.

I disagree entirely.

sure the idea of a second team playing out of Lang Park was the flimsy excuse to get another team in "Brisbane"

but that novelty will wear off in pretty quick succession. they really want to avoid the Crushers mistakes of attempting to go head-2-head with the Broncos, while they'll survive (unlike the Crushers) it isn't a smart long term strategy.

Ideally they need to find away to upgrade their stadium to a boutique 25k seater and play their matches out of there. they'll get shitloads of people from the far North of Brisbane that don't want to make the trek into the CBD and Lang Park. their supporter base (at least initially) will be from that region anyway, so forcing them to travel for 45minutes (on a good day) to go to the footy is insane.

It’s not a matter of competing with the Broncos but of attracting Brisbane Rugby League supporters who don’t necessarily support the Broncos. To me, they are Brisbane 2, and Redcliffe just put together the best bid and have the facilities and capital to run the team. I’m not sure that an NRL team out of Dolphin Park will be financially viable long term. I think the NRL know this and that’s why just Dolphins in the name. I’ll be happy for them to succeed, it’s just that the rhetoric for the last few years has been around a 2nd Brisbane team and not specifically around a geographical area.

I’ve long been convinced the rhetoric has been about Brisbane 2 because none of them have the kahunas to cut a Sydney club instead
