Should Oates stay on the wing for his whole career?

I thought I would post this thread and see what other people think.

I can't figure out how he managed to score that try, but he somehow found a fucking way. He has been awesome on the wing in just about every single game he has played there.

So, should he just stay on the wing for the rest of his career?

I could see him playing wing forever as long as he stays fit and we're still packed full of back rowers. But if he loses a bit of pace when he gets older he's certainly an option closer in. I really hope he can stay a winger though, he's by far the best winger we've had in a long while.

Nah probably not his whole career, those knees are a big worry, I can see his speed and athleticism diminishing real quick.

I'd say we have him on the wing for the next 3-4 years and then slowly transition him into the back row.

I have to believe that try tonight was just luck... No one is that fucking good...

His body shape is pretty unique so it's hard to place him... he seems almost too big to play 2nd row when you look at the others getting around... I didn't realise how massive he was until he made Ryan James look small a few weeks back...

I wouldn't be against it that's for sure. There's only going to be upside to Oates' form and I don't think he is the best winger he can be yet. We are only scratching the surface now. He can get even better than what he already is as he continues to develop and read the game better. He could potentially be the best winger in the comp. I think he'll be winger of the year in future seasons, if not in this season. If he gets a call up to Origin, he'll be a permanent fixture in the QLD side for years to come.

I think Oates could work on his short term acceleration and footwork. Just add a bit of zip and elusiveness to his repertoire. I wouldn't mind him just putting on a small burst of acceleration and footwork to get him past defenders off a kick return or close to the line.

Right now he carries it like a forward, crashing straight into the defensive line, sort of like a freight train, but that can take its toll on his young body. We all know that when he gets in the clear he runs as quick as an outside back, but he does take a bit of time to get going. .

It depends on how long he keeps performing out there, but it can't be denied he would be a damaging ball runner in the second row

Back rowers are a dime a dozen compared to what he's producing for us on the wing.

Leave him there until it ain't working.

His lateral movement is non-existent, but his pace and power are second to none. The crowd rises every time he touches the ball, and as soon as he gets even a little room to move, you expect a try to be scored. Leave him on the wing for as long as possible I say.

**** moving him, prolong his knees as much as possible.

It is too early to tell. There is every chance he stays on the wing his whole career but with someone as talented as he is I think we can get even more out of him if he is in the centres or even in the backrow. I don't think it matter where he plays because he is a star.

Definitely keep him on the wing for now. 2nd row MAYBE in a few years but his unique body shape is what is helping him to be the finisher he is. Unbelievable. I cant see him being a centre though.

He's our best option since yow yeh on the wing. So until some other superstar kid comes along I can't see him moving

6 foot 5 and 3/4 in the old money. And about 111Kgs. Don't believe the 106Kgs you see.

I think he could play in any number of positions and be pretty destructive apart from maybe in the halves or hooker.

One thing for certain is he is in the right place right now. He is an unbelievable finisher who can still punish in defense and take the ball forward like a forward and often does. Think of him as the next Wendell or Lote and let him keep battering the opposition with bruising runs and tackles along with absurd tries.

In my opinion he is going to be probably the best winger the nrl has ever seen if he keeps improving. Virtually every moment he is involved is game changing. Whether its a huge hit, a huge run, a line break or a try.
