No dont get me wrong i wasnt kicking the boots into Wally on this one.

Im tryna say that even thou Izzy isnt playing the same as he did at Melbourne he is doing alot for the club of the field just by his name being mentioned alot like Lewis did.

Yes, but the comparison to Lewis is wrong. Lewis attracted players to the club. Signing Folau forced us to let players go.

Ennis and Hannant would have left regardless. Money hungry guys who can not show Loyalty.

Boyd, kemp,Moon,Stagg ect yeah that sucks.. But Moon is now flopping. Kemps come back.

Stagg and Boyd are still a shame.

Moon is now flopping? He never did anything when he was at the Broncos and he hasn't done anything since!

Yeah, wasn't so worried about Moon. Hannant was always going to go, he's a mercenary. Ennis would've stayed if he got a decent offer. Ditto Kemp, Boyd and Stagg.

Unfortunately when someone pops along consuming upwards of $300K of the salary cap, those "decent offers" aren't possible.

You're selling Ennis short. Maybe if the Broncos could offer him more than one year he would've stayed.

Boyd would have gone with Bennet regardless imo.

Yeah I agree, I mean signing Folau forced us to lose some quality players.
Tonie Carroll retired, Folau basically got his money. we didnt lose anyone else to get Folau, it was basically a one-for-one swap.

Exactly - I grow very weary of the whole "Falou was a terrible buy because it meant we can now never buy another player again" argument that seems to have been going on here for two years...

Well it's exactly wrong. Tonie Carroll retired, but there were also upgraded contracts for players (Peter Wallace springs to mind), the signings of Te'o and Setu, which were done to replace Carroll.

The Folau for Carroll swap is a myth. The managers of Stagg, Boyd, Ennis, Kemp and Moon were all told look elsewhere, even if you have an option for another year, because Folau's signing plus the intention of Lockyer to re-sign after 2009 meant there was no chance of upgrades or even matching existing deals.

Yes but it's hardly like we're paying Falou $1.8 million a year so no-one else gets a look-in when it comes to buying new players. Sure he's getting good coin but to lay the blame on him for other players going and not a lot coming as new signings is also blatantly wrong

Except it's not. Not when someone like Denan Kemp was offered less than he was already on despite 2008 being a break out year for him. That forced him to leave, and it was a horrible move.

Look I'm not saying we shouldn't have signed Folau, but his signing has caused a huge disruption to the Broncos playing roster, particularly in terms of depth, and his first season did little to warrant it (albeit stifled by injury).

I'm looking forward to him making giant leaps (other than just for bombs) in all areas of his game this season and justify his marquee salary he got as a teenager.

In baseball there's a stat that measures a player's value to the team as opposed to having a replacement player in that position. Now I would argue that in a lot of cases of players leaving the club, and certainly in the Denan Kemp and Joel Moon examples, that the replacement players that played in their positions last year were far and away better than they were.

All I'm saying is that Falou hasn't crippled the club by any means - I would suggest that the management of the club may have shown faith in the depth of the club and not been too fussed to let certain players go elsewhere.

Its also alot to do with HUNT. He was expected to stay and would have got a nice upgrade as well. So we could also blame Hunt because the money put aside for him could have kept say Kemp/Boyd

This is also true.

Like I said, I'm not bagging signing Folau. He's an exciting player. I just really hope after his first contract is up we're looking back on it going "yeah, we got bang for buck".

Frankly I'd give his first season a B- (would've been a C+ but I upped it a level for compassion for his injury).

as draggx said, Hunt was the real killer here. no doubt the broncos were putting aside as LEAST another $100k-$150k a year for him.

and if i had $300k to spend, rather than giving say 6 untested and unproven players like Setu etc $50k upgrades for doing not much to begin with, id get a PROVEN matchwinner and one of the most exciting players in the league. maybe thats just me? well no, its not, because thats what the Broncos decided too ;)

Wait.... what the hell is going on... You didnt bag out Hunt?

but yes i agree with you. Anyone would take the gamble on Hunt staying.
