PENRITH star Rhys Wesser has secured and early release from the NRL club and will join South Sydney on a two-year deal.
Wesser, 29, reached an agreement with the Rabbitohs on Wednesday.

A former Queensland full-back, Wesser joined the Panthers in 1998 and has scored 112 tries for the club.

Rabbitohs Head Coach Jason Taylor said: "Rhys Wesser is a quality player in all facets of full-back play and it's really exciting to have him join us next season.

Just a shame Wesser has been ratshit for 4 years.

Souths wonder why they don't make any impression on the competition...

Good move by Penrith. They've got some great youngsters in their ranks, I'd say there wouldn't have been much room for Wesser come next year.

wasn't it announced earlier in the year that wesser wanted a release? I agree with Emma, that with Coote coming through, as well as all their other backs Wesser would have had a fight on his hands next year. Atleast souths have solved their fullback problems.

I really think it is sad to see Wesser going to Souths. He has been a great clubman and loyal to Penrith.
Going to be as weird as seeing Wesser in Souths colors as much as it is seeing Petero in Penrith colors.
I still reckon he has good games and is not past it.
Do understand that a couple of young guys are going to be on the list to take his spot but a shame he can't finish his career at Penrith.
