Guys playing for nations they weren`t born in and have never visited .
What changes ?

I imagine it's just your standard crappy journalism tbh. Not only is Dearden the incumbent, he won the Wally Lewis medal off the back of two games in that position. Only way he isn't the starting 7 is if he's injured.
 
But like why be against this???, who cares about if the state of origin players play for Australia, who cares about Australian ruby league. Many of these people are born and bred in the states and should be able to play for them and represent their culture, why be upset at this

I was born in Australia and I barely give two ****s about being Australian. I definitely give at least four to five ****s about being a Queenslander, so I find this pretty easy to reconcile.
 
Nikora is keen to play for Qld, moved there when he was 9 and went to school there as well as Keebra Park.

That's at least one back for Qld... he instantly becomes our best second rower

I'm the same (minus the being born here part, lived 3/4 of my life here). I think State of Origin is the reason for this ( alongside traditionally super weak competition). Its hard to really support Australia when the biggest spectacle in the game is dividing the team into two and pitting them against each other.

Why shouldn’t it be both?
 
Thinking about it and State of origin is more like QRL vs NSWRL... and I for one ****ing despise NSWRL

It's not a residents game either (if anyone wanted to go that way) as they still need to have been here and playing within the state comp before they were 13.

I don't have an issue with opening it up to kiwis and poms given there's a criteria of being here at 13.

It's no different to what it was last year, except guys previously affiliated to kiwis and poms now get the same chance to play as literally every other NRL player.

If they didn’t do this it would be dead in a few years anyway. And now there’s an extra special advantage anyway. We can now send games to England and nz.
 
Jahrome Hughes doesn't know if he's eligible for Qld but says he doesn't care, he doesn't want to play origin.

AFB says he qualifies for both Qld and NSW but only wants to play for NSW.

I was born here too, but home is New Zealand.

My entire family are QLDers, and I love the state.

Like most people outside of the country, the arrogance of Australian teams really turns me off.

“Hypothetically” if both teams run out with exact team lists, I totally see us trashing those cockroaches.

They can cheat however they want but at the end of the day, those scums will never get Origin.

What does it say about me?

I'll tell you what I love about Australia. I love our multiculturalism. I love that we are built on so many different cultures, and I love when we are welcoming of that. It sucks when we aren't.

I love that a kid that moves here from NZ or England or ****ing Paraguay or Pakistan can identify and love being a Queenslander as much as a kid who was born here. I also don't have a problem with them still wanting to represent their nation. Local allegiance is another thing altogether to national allegiance. Humans are ****ing complicated things with the ability to love unconditionally and sometimes without reasonable explanation. It's a beautiful thing.

I don't think you can qualify for both these days.

Didn't they change the rules to a number of questions and the state that gets the most responses is who you are eligible for.
