Looks like thats what theyre doing.

"NATHAN Tinkler will tomorrow be asked to hand over control of the Newcastle Knights by giving the club's NRL licence back to the Members Club board.

With his billion-dollar asset-rich empire crumbling by the day, The Sunday Telegraph can reveal the coal baron will be told to cut ties and walk away for the good of the Newcastle club and community."

In an interview on news.com.au Bennett has said he will see out his contract regardless of what happens. He also said its never been about the money though, so take it with a grain of salt ;)

If they actually stop paying Bennett because the club is insolvent I doubt his response will be the same.

And rightly so. If my employer couldn't pay me I'd tell them to get fucked in the nicest way possible.

And rightly so. If my employer couldn't pay me I'd tell them to get ****ed in the nicest way possible.

Yeah that's my point exactly. That the news.com.au statement that "Bennett will see out his contract" is pointless writing.

the article for those wondering: http://www.news.com.au/sport/nrl/th...t-nathan-tinkler/story-fndujljl-1226537181942

"Phil Rothfield: If Nathan has to get out and the club reverts to its previous ownership model, could they still afford your salary?

Wayne Bennett: (Laughs) Well I'm going to tell you something that might surprise you. The best offer I got when I was tossing up leaving the Dragons was from the Dragons. Whichever one I'd taken I was going to be well paid. This job's not about the money. We might be doing it a bit tough but I'm not going anywhere.

I signed up for four years and the commitment is to stay for four years. I don't want a reputation that when things get tough you walk away and let someone else do the dirty work.

As long as the Knights have got a footy club, I'll fulfil my part of the agreement."

Interesting, I still doubt he'll stay if he has to take a big pay cut but I guess we'll only know if that situation happens.

It's not only his salary, but the budget available to him for roster, coaching staff and other resources.

I'd imagine that even if Tinkler can stay afloat at the Knights that there will be a major cost cutting program for the Knights.

Can't see Bennett hanging around with no money to earn or spend.
