The man who should be king

Yep he's definitely got the smarts. It'd be quite a coup if rugby league pinched him.

It would be massive, and just what rugby league needs - a proven performer from a different sport. We tried it previously with David Moffatt, but he was hamstrung by the wafer thin peace agreement between the ARL and News Limited, so he had very little real power. David Gallop in the past 10 years has done nothing but maintain that peace.

Now with the independent commission we have an ideal environment for change. Having someone in the top job who is experienced in managing a sport of this magnitude, but not corrupted by the boys club that rugby league has suffered under for 100 years can really make a difference!

Gillon McLachlan (2nd in charge) of the AFL.

I'd hardly call maintaining that peace nothing...

I said nothing but...meaning that was all he did. Significant as it may be, he did nothing else for the game (really). He was reactive, not proactive.

The NRL should do whatever it takes for however long it takes and wherever it takes them to get THIS guy as their new CEO.

He is a very very savvy operator ...

Must be my sick sense of humour, I half expected that link to open to a photo of Ronald McDonald. This guy sounds like he would be an ideal choice. Apparently he is on big cash with the AFL, however, the fact that Demetrio is not expected to go anywhere in the next 5 years or so might be the hook that gets him.

The NRL should've withdrawn their offer and made it a headline before they got a chance to "reject the NRL"

Never trust AFL types, its an old boys club full of kents.

I could never understand why the NRL was so public with this whole thing. Reminds of how the Broncos handled the Inglis non signing.
Talk about lead with your chin.

With Inglis, the Broncos had a verbal contract with him. (which courts accept)

If the Broncos were complete pr!cks they could have forced him to see out the contract.
