All this discussion about Sydney and Brisbane and the number of teams got me thinking about our options here in SEQ. I would support having another team here in Brisbane. I would never change my allegiance to the Broncs, they are my team. That said I favour the introduction of a new team based on the North Side but taking players from wherever.
Our state is represented at each end unlike NSW which is Sydney centric. I doubt Rockhampton is suitable but with Brisbane growing so quickly and the economy in good shape (it has been solid for many years) we could easily sustain an alternative to the Broncs. We had the Crushers who were built on dishonesty and subterfuge and were destined to fail. A clean and honest organization could not miss here. I don't see any real negative aside from money for the players being a bit harder to get but as Melbourne have proven, there is plenty available and it's only the NRL who have stopped a lot more cash flowing into the game. The moneys there.
The benefits
: home town rivalry
: greater strength when dealing with the scum admin from NSW
: less impact on the Broncs at selection time
: a game every weekend in town( Suncorp/Lang Park as the venue)
: huge sellout crowds when the local derby occurs
: more proof that the home of Rugby League is here in Brisbane
There would be plenty of people who would like to support a new team and we really could do with an alternative here in Brisbane.
