Michael Maguire started life as Brisbane coach in dominant fashion, with the Broncos beating the Sydney Roosters 50-14 in their opening match of the 2025 season.
Despite the massive result, Maguire will ensure the players do not get ahead of themselves, according to SENQ’s Corey Parker.
It was a dominant display from start to finish with the Broncos managing to take their strong pre-season form into the first proper game of the campaign, suggesting to spectators and experts alike that hey have returned to their 2023 form.
After listening to last night’s press conference, former Bronco Parker feels that Maguire will ensure his Broncos keep a steady resolve this season.
“The one thing that ‘Madge’ won’t do is get ahead of himself,” he explained on SENQ Breakfast.
“I mean everyone is sort of now off one game’s performance, putting 50 on the Roosters is now, 'oh, the Broncos, they can do this and they can do that'.
“But ultimately again in the big scheme of things, it’s a great start and a great step in the right direction and they have done a lot of good things in the lead up to this game.
“But as we heard from Madge Maguire, it’s about getting back together as a team and working out where they can get better next week.”
Maguire has built up a reputation of being able to create and coach disciplined sides which has resulted in success at club, Origin and international level with this being partially why he was brought in to replace Kevin Walters last year.
While it remains to be seen whether this form will continue, SENQ Breakfast co-host Ian Healy added that there is some optimism growing for the Red Hill club.
“If you can get your talent fit, strong, healthy and hungry like they were last night, my goodness,” Healy said.
“Fingers crossed they can stay more fit than they have in the past few years.”
The Broncos have managed to return back to Queensland last night to ensure that players and staff are back with families before Cyclone Alfred hits the state.
The Broncos will have to travel again for next week’s clash when they travel to GIO Stadium to face the Canberra Raiders next Saturday night.
