Well whispers from the Broncos suggest they're no longer happy to consider Hunt as the next captain, and nobody else within the club is standing up enough to deserve it, so they're in the market for a genuine leader to replace Locky. Smith is one name I've heard mentioned.

However, Roy Asotasi is also getting a lot of mentions at Red Hill...

Ergh, I hope not.
We need a good forward tbh.

He's good, but surely getting long in the tooth.[/quote:1x1i9awm]
Why? He's playing for one of the worst teams ever, and forwards tend to get better at around 28-31, i mean look at the two Aussie props lol.

I reckon he would be a great buy, but either way there's no chance we would get him so i don't see how this was brought up anyway [icon_lol1.

Parker, haha please.
I don't think Hunt should be ruled out for life.
Roy is a gun, but how old is he? He's injury prone-ish as well...
Hopefully we still got three seasons more of Locky, by then someone surely will step up to the plate.
Yeah, heaps "injury prone-ish" considering besides the last 2-3 games of the season Asotasi has not missed a single game since he signed he started playing for rabbits in start of 07, that's about 47/50, pretty good if you ask me [icon_wink

I have complete faith in Bruno Cullen's ability to butcher negotiations with all of these prospective recruits...

The most important thing to keep in mind here is which position will be most essential as part of a long term plan after the enevitable departure of locky.

Wallace clearly is the dominant playmaker of the future. He is the direct replacement for locky as far as playmakers go.

Hodges and folau are both set on long term deals which solidify the outside backs.

Now who gives us the go forward?

From what I understand Joel Clinton ties up a reasonable chunck of the salary cap, if the Bronc's were to let him go when his current contract runs out at the end of 09 then they could use this money to go a long way toward someone like Asotasi. On the same token Marsh and Gorrel are both tying up some dollars for the number 9 spot and both come off contract at the end of 09 as well.

If it was me i'd want a serious push toward Cam Smith. I wouldn't get into a bidding war with the titans just a decent offer. He would definetly add the go forward to each play and he has the best dummy half kicking game of any hooker in the world which would take some of the 5th tackle pressure off Wallace.

I have a feeling Marsh and Gorrel are somewhat bandaid solutions to the number 9 next year, sure they will fill the spot pretty well but they probebly arn't part of any 5-10 year plan. The most important person to watch there is McCullough, if he can step up early next year that will be the deal breaker here.

+1000

I would simply bid just to make the titans pay more.
