Tyrone Peachey to backflip on Titans deal

I read that the Titans are willing to play hard ball and make him sit out for the duration of his contract. Good on them for saying so, but I doubt it’ll make it that far.

What a disgrace. This is a big test for the NRL which we all know they will fail.

Gold Coast warn Tyrone Peachey over his plans to backflip on Titans contract

September 12, 2018

GOLD COAST boss Graham Annesley has warned Tyrone Peachey faces three years on the sidelines if the NSW Origin ace reneges on his $1.5 million Titans deal.

The Peachey contract saga took a dramatic twist on Wednesday when the Titans were rocked by claims the Panthers star had instructed his manager he wants to stay at Penrith for family reasons.

Peachey reportedly made the comments while talking to the media as he prepares for Saturday night’s sudden-death semi-final against the Sharks at Allianz Stadium.

The prospect of a Peachey backflip first surfaced last month after his wife expressed concerns about moving to the Gold Coast, but the Titans declared they will play hardball with their new recruit.

In March, Peachey signed a three-year deal with the Titans starting next season and Annesley says he must honour the contract or risk being exiled from the NRL until 2022.

“He’s a contracted player for us — we expect Tyrone Peachey to be here on November 1 (the start of Titans pre-season),” Annesley said.

“Tyrone Peachey signed a deal with us six months ago and we expect him to honour that deal.

“We have made recruitment and retention decisions off the back of his signing.

“If the situation was reversed and he was desperately keen to come and we decided we didn’t want him, how would that go down with Tyrone and his manager?

“Tyrone either plays with us … or he will have to sit on the sidelines for three years.”

In the lead-up to Penrith’s finals showdown with the Sharks, Peachey told reporters he never wanted to leave a Panthers club battling salary cap pressures.

The utility said he and his wife had built a new home in Penrith, adding that he has asked his manager Sam Ayoub to finalise his future after the Panthers’ finals campaign.

“We’ve just built in Penrith and the missus is real comfortable in that place,” Peachey said.

“I spoke to my manager and told him what I want to happen.

“I also told him I don’t want to worry about anything until the end of the year.

“I just want to worry about Penrith for the moment and we’ll figure the rest out at the end of the year.”

One major sticking point relates to a representative-bonus payment clause that was in Peachey’s Penrith deal for 2019. Peachey stood to pocket an extra $50,000 for breaking into State of Origin this year, but that clause was not inserted in his Titans deal for next season.

Ironically, the NRL closed the door on players reneging on contracts in 2015 after Daly Cherry-Evans backflipped on his Titans deal to stay at Manly.

“The days of the backflip are over,” Annesley said.

“Under the rules, the NRL wouldn’t register another deal with a Sydney club anyway. We have a legally binding contract which Tyrone willingly signed and entered into.”

Ayoub said: “Tyrone has not asked for a release, but there are some welfare issues we need to work through.

“We will talk about his situation when his commitments for this year are over.”

"Welfare issues we need to work through". Here we go.

"Welfare issues we need to work through". Here we go.

Titans should just stand firm. If they show they wont budge then Peachey will move up. They just can't give him any hope they'll back down. No way he is taking a stand and sitting out a season. He gets frustrated sitting on the bench.

It would deadset be harder to get out of a Telstra phone contract than it will be for him to get out of this. Graham is leaving the Titans soon, so why would he give a shit.

Tits can stand firm, and I hope they do, but then you risk forcing a player to play for you that doesn't want to be there, and that likely end badly

After DCE it's about time the Titans took a stand on this shit. Their planning for future squads is being constantly thrown into turmoil because of these wanker players who mindlessly sign big contracts they have no intention of honoring.

Let the **** sit out for 3 years if it is really that desperate a situation for him. I bet he won't.

Tyrone Peachey agent’s explosive new claims against Titans

Matt Logue, The Daily Telegraph

TYRONE Peachey’s manager Sam Ayoub says the Penrith playmaker remains undecided about honouring his three-year Gold Coast deal due to unresolved welfare issues.

Ayoub told The Daily Telegraph he contacted the Titans six weeks ago to raise Peachey’s concerns about relocating.
Peachey’s partner is reluctant to move after the couple recently built a new home in Sydney’s west.

She has also spoken to partners of former Panthers players now at the Titans who expressed concerns about living away from home.

Ayoub also accused the Gold Coast of shopping Peachey to another club without consent, a claim the Titans have strongly denied.
Ayoub believes this is a double standard given the Titans’ strong stance on Peachey honouring his deal.

“They offered him to another club without his knowledge, not once but twice,” Ayoub said.

“Why would a club do that and why would a player want to play for a club that has done that to him?

“It appears hypocritical that they want to hold onto a player whom they have discretely been trying to offload behind the scenes.”

Ayoub said the Gold Coast are yet to resolve Peachey’s concerns and at this point he won’t be joining the club.
He also stressed he hasn’t asked the Titans for a release.

“Contrary to what the Titans have said in the public, I went and raised Tyrone’s concerns with the club,” he said.

“I hoped the concerns would have been addressed six weeks ago but I’ve had nothing come back to me of any constructive nature.

“In fact, there has been no direct contact with the player on any significant level other than to say we want you here and we’ll talk to you.

“At the expense of not embarrassing the club, I certainly won’t detail that publicly but the procrastination and lack of attention will eventually lead to further investigation.

“It is amazing because a little action and care earlier would have avoided all of this.”

The Daily Telegraph can also reveal the RLPA have contacted Peachey to gain greater clarity around the circumstances.
However, Peachey hasn’t asked the RLPA for their assistance.

Under the new NRL rules, players can’t backflip on a deal like Daly Cherry-Evans did on the Gold Coast in 2015.

Peachey has signed a three-year deal and the Titans must grant a release for him to join another club.

But at this point things could get ugly if Peachey stands his ground.

The Titans have already publicly said the NSW Origin star can sit on the sidelines if he doesn’t honour his deal.

This would rekindle memories of Gorden Tallis, who was forced to sit out the 1996 season due to a contract dispute with the St George Dragons during the Super League war.

Lol Peachey. Such a dick.

How would you feel being a Titans fan though? Even if he stays you have a player who doesn't want to be anywhere near the joint stinking it up.

They can take a "stand" but it's a 500k hole in the salary cap to do what's "right".
If it goes to shit, and the Titans put him in reserve grade, I'd be happy for the NRL to give a salary cap concession for every week he's in reserve grade.

I don't think the club should suffer for it.

Waiting for the race card to be inevitably pulled out
Also, why build a new house and then sign with a new club that isn't in the same state? I hope the Titans stick strong and force him to either play next year on the gold coast or sit out for the three years. They should be able to fine his ass for every game he doesn't suit up and for every training session he doesn't turn up to

His manager is trying anything ...

and even if the Titans did offer him to another club, it is still not a "double standard" as Peachey would have had the right to tell the Titans to **** off (just like the Titans are doing to him right now)

These managers are a bunch of *****. Where does the NRL find these slimeballs?

I hope the Titans stick to it. I'm sick of seeing clubs constantly fold over backwards to the point where these contracts mean nothing. Bring him up, stick the douchebag in reserve grade, and every week he isn't picked, remind him that due to his manager, his career is over.

If the Titans stick by their guns here I will gain major respect for them, possibly even enough to have them as my third team (Broncos first daylight second).

In my opinion Ayoub is an absolute wanker and below even journalists when it comes to being a worm. The GC are only "shopping him around" because the fucking idiot, possibly advised by Ayoub to do so, has publicly come out and said he isn't going to honour a legal contract. Guess what Ayoub, that contract is legal and he's going to have to break it to get out of it. I hope the Tits take them to court.

If the other NRL clubs have any sense they’ll all blacklist Peachy if he doesn’t honour this contract.
