It was Bennett earlier in the year who said “you won’t divide us”, or words to that effect. And now, after everything’s been done to save the careers (and lives, ultimately) of a bunch of players, sign inarguably the most promising forward pack for years to come, and set ourselves up for a massive few years, the vultures eventually succeed in white-anting the joint.

Bennett should leave this club with the highest of accolades, he should finish his career on his terms, and yet a bunch of fucking scum journalists are not only going to ruin his legacy, they’re going to high-five each other all the way, just to prove to themselves that the media has more power than those who actually contribute to the game.

The board has already rejected his proposal earlier this year to extend his contract and have said they won’t make any further comment until post season and their October meeting.

So I would expect the whole sacking this is purely speculation.

Of course it may be true, but there’s a fair chance it isn’t also.

I’d say having a marquee signing arrive busted would be one thing. He was the Hodges-like mongrel scrapper that we’ve missed since ‘15. Our best defensive player fracturing his neck a few games in sucks too. Add that, and the reality that some people can’t grasp in that young, raw players just simply are not consistent.

There were literally no halfbacks left that weren’t pea-hearted bitches (Pearce) or available for anything remotely close to what they were worth (Hunt, Taylor), so what exactly should we have done?

Oh, more season-ending injuries, and an unblinking media campaign to destabilise everyone from Matt Lodge through to Bennett.

Even the Boyd/Isaako switch is being done with a look to the future - like what the Roosters did with Mini & RTS, Bennett has found that Isaako’s ball-playing is not where it needs to be so he’s going to learn by watching the veteran.

People shitting on Bennett because they don’t understand how shit works, or because they don’t care and just want us to win every game out of entitled arrogance, is what has allowed the media to get a foothold. And now we’re going to see exactly what that petulance results in.
