Who is the worst NRL commentator?

Blocker by a country mile.

Fox has much better commentators but they are also much more bias at the same time.

Ennis and Cronk piss me off something bad. Cronk is a weird one, when he has a headset on he just offers nothing insights, but when he's talking more deeply about the game he's quite switched on. Maybe needs to speak to Sterling.

Ennis just needs to **** off altogether, not every sentence has to be a kodak moment mate, just call th game.

I don't mind Vossy/Smith. Quentin Hull is pretty good too on ABC Grandstand.

How about they don’t interrupt the commentary to tell me about some awesome new piece of shit show the network is trying to push? I can’t seem to describe why Cronk is so hard to listen to, but he most certainly is. Weird speech patterns. But anyway, they’re all well below an acceptable standard. Sterling and Rabs were the real deal.

Matt Thompson, he needs to be muted. Almost everyone else is bad but as annoying as they are, you still can listen to them. Thompson on the other hand, he is unlistenable, he actually hurts your ears.

He's bad. Certain players he seems to emphasise their names to a stupid extent. Almost every time Payno get the ball its " PAYNE HAAAAASSSSS", and this marky mark nonsense is getting infuriating.

I think Cronk just spews cliches or it's the equivalent of " and how about this bloke"

When he does the podcast he'll go into details and dissect a play, but in live commentary it'll just be "and watch Kaaar-Toa, he's a special talent... he goes to the line and fires this pass straight to the centre... amazing vision... jeez this kid is special"

Like duh... we have eyes and can see what he's doing... why not tell us how/why the defence has ****ed up... what has he done to cause the **** up... was there a quick ptb somewhere that they've attacked from, etc.

In his podcast he'll pull apart a whole set or what he done 5mins ago to then setup what he's just done.

His live commentary is just bland boring surface level rubbish that everyone can see... and then he tries to joke and banter even though he has zero charisma

I didnt realise it with Fox, and it wasn't until I caught random ch 9 games, but I think there is a lack of quality when it's one main caller with one colour commentator... and thats what Fox run with... likely due to cost cutting.

I actually prefer ch 9 simply because the colour commentators can bounce off each other... back in the day Sterlo could bounce his breakdowns off Joey, etc.

At the moment theyll have Cam with Billy, Joey, etc. and they will bounce off each other what the guys in the middle are doing... or one colour commentator will talk about something, but theyre not reliant on carrying the entirety of the breakdown for the game.

On Fox it's very reliant on the main caller chiming in and theyre given too much air time to get across their opinions... you have one colour commentator like Blocker and he's got no insight, but if you stick Blocker next to someone it would be better because he can just talk about forwards whilst others talk about fullbacks, halves, etc.

But they all fall down when none of them know the rules, but talk on it with authority and sensationalise something just because they dont agree with correct decisions... like the massive carry on when the wahs player touched it and the bunker correctly overturned it.

But they sensationalise it because Faux website can then create stories from their quotes like theyre some sort of expert

I don't think he gets to call the main games but I think I heard Spudd calling something the other day. Oh sweet lord...
I heard that too. Listening to him trying to cobble together a coherent sentence was cringe.
He's like a handicapped version of CONEHEAD.

He honestly just sounds like he is drunk, poor fellow but the CTE has really done a job on him.

At least we don't have Hadley and Gilbert in the commentary box anymore.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard the term "base over apex", I would be a very rich man.

It was difficult trying to do montages with Hadley's calls because he's like a ****ing horse race caller, trying to find the gaps in between the words was a nightmare.

I read a couple of months ago that Rabs has come out and said that if he was able to commentate from home, he would absolutely do it.

Edit: might have been only State of Origin games that he was referring to, not sure
